Leading with heart: Jitendra’s journey as a Night Team Leader

Being a Night Team Leader is about more than managing operations; it’s about creating meaningful connections, guiding a team, and ensuring every guest feels welcomed and cared for, even in the quiet hours of the night.

Jitendra Yadav’s story at ibis Styles London Southwark shows how passion, empathy, and dedication can transform a career in hospitality.

At Accor, we have plenty of opportunities available for those who want to lead, inspire, and create memorable experiences.

How did you first discover your passion for hospitality?

"I love looking after people; serving others is my passion. Hospitality is the only field that gives you so many opportunities to do that, to meet people, and to experience something beyond your imagination.

Sometimes you meet someone for the first time and feel a profound connection, so that they feel like family, it’s like a loving romance. That’s what makes hospitality special."

What was your career before joining Accor?

"Before coming to London, I taught for 42 years. I ran many departments and served as principal of several schools for over 18 years.

When I arrived in London, I wanted to enter hospitality and luckily got the opportunity to join Accor at ibis Styles. That marked the start of a new chapter in my life."

How did your first experience at Accor feel?

"When I joined Accor, the first word I heard was ‘Heartist®’. That’s Accor’s difference; it makes you feel like family.

Because I felt connected to the company, I could make guests feel the same. Hospitality is about serving our guests, and this culture gives you the energy to give your best every day."

What does your role as a Night Team Leader involve?

"People who stay with us come to London to have a good time, and we are the first people they meet.

My role is to make guests feel connected and at home, even at night. It’s about creating a welcoming environment, ensuring everything runs smoothly, and supporting my team so we can deliver the best possible experience for our guests."

What moments have made you proud at Accor?

"My best moments include meeting my first manager, who was humble and welcoming, and my second manager, Eva, who nurtured my love for hospitality.

Every day I work with some of the strongest and most inspiring people in the world, and each moment I share with them is a proud moment for me."

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in hospitality?

"You need to feel connected to the service you provide. Be prepared to give your best.

Hospitality is full of opportunities to learn and serve. Always be prepared for challenges. Be positive and optimistic in any environment, even when it gets stressful. Find the best solutions to make guests feel comfortable and cared for."

What does being a Heartist® mean to you?

"Being a Heartist® means connecting deeply with people, understanding emotions, and creating meaningful moments.

Accor gives us an environment where we love to work, which allows us to make guests feel welcomed, valued, and at home."
