What are the duties of a Hotel Manager?

Hotel managers play a pivotal role; they’re the heartbeat of their establishment.

They set the tone and vision, leading with confidence and inspiration as they guide their teams through the challenges and opportunities of an ever-evolving industry.

Balancing coordination, strategy, financial oversight, and time spent on the ground with their teams, here’s a closer look at the key responsibilities of a Hotel Manager.

Leadership management

As a Hotel Manager, you operate both on short-term and long-term goals for the success of the establishment:

  • Leading and supervising all activities in the operations departments, while maintaining close contact with the General Manager of the hotel.
  • Establishing a clear vision to develop, recommend, implement, and manage annual and long-term objectives for the operational departments, while keeping up with performance issues to ensure these objectives are met.
  • Conducting daily briefings with management on current key activities, in order to understand different realities and convey important messages.

Talent management and collaboration

As a manager, you have a clear understanding of your hotel and teams' needs and are actively engaged in addressing them, using the resources provided by the Group.

  • Facilitating the hiring and retention of talent, to ensure the hotel stays consistently vibrant and high-performing across all areas, by promoting Accor's strong employer promises and making them a reality for anyone who decides to join.
  • Fostering daily engagement among Heartists®, including departmental team members and managers, by addressing their specific needs and ambitions through coaching, learning and development opportunities.
  • Keeping in touch with other hotel departments, as well as regional and corporate teams, to ensure access to the right information, resources, and to communicate local issues effectively.

Guest and employee satisfaction

Of course, the satisfaction of your guests and your teams is your top priority:

  • Enjoying guest interactions, you address them professionally and appropriately, upholding the establishment's standards.
  • Looking to improve guests’ satisfaction, you are always one step ahead as you try to anticipate and understand their issues throughout their stay.
  • Owing the same degree of attention to your teams, you are striving for their feedback, making sure they feel listened to, encouraged and supported in their projects and career.
