Ali’s journey in hospitality as a Gardener at Mövenpick Tunisia


Some careers are found, others are chosen. For Ali Dhifli, becoming a gardener at Mövenpick Hotel Gammarth Tunis was both a passion and a calling. 

Drawn to nature, beauty, and creating welcoming spaces, Ali discovered early on that a gardener's job in hospitality allowed him to make a tangible impact on guest experiences while nurturing his love for green spaces.

How did your career journey lead you to hospitality?

"I always knew I wanted to work in the hotel industry. I love well-maintained and welcoming spaces, and contributing to this atmosphere motivates me every day. 

Being a hotel gardener was a natural fit for me, as it allows me to combine my passion for green spaces with the pleasure of contributing to the guest experience. It was my first career choice, and I’m excited to be working in it."

What was your first experience as a gardener like?

"I began my career as a gardener out of a passion for nature and manual work. I didn’t have formal training at first, but I learned on the job, guided by experienced professionals. 

Gradually, I acquired the skills, techniques, and best practices needed to maintain and beautify green spaces effectively."

What does your role as a gardener involve at Mövenpick Hotel Gammarth Tunis?

"Today, I am responsible for maintaining the gardens and outdoor areas of the hotel. I love my job because I can create a pleasant environment for our guests. 

Every day brings new challenges and learning opportunities, and I feel proud of the progress I’ve made thanks to my motivation and experience."

What do you love most about hospitality?

"I love contributing to the comfort and well-being of guests. My work in the outdoor spaces directly impacts their first impression of the hotel. It’s rewarding to know that my attention to detail and care help make their stay enjoyable. 

I also appreciate that Accor values quality, respect, and teamwork. Even as a gardener, I feel included and recognised, part of a larger mission to deliver exceptional guest experiences."

What makes hospitality a unique industry to work in?

"Hospitality is human and rewarding. Even in a role like mine, you feel part of a larger team where every detail counts for the guest’s comfort. 

The sector demands great attention to quality, presentation, and customer satisfaction. We don’t just do our job, we do it with care, ensuring that the result is impeccable every day. It’s challenging, but the rewards are truly fulfilling."

What does being a Heartist® mean to you?

"Being a Heartist® means practising my profession with passion, care, and heart, even without direct contact with guests. It’s about putting humanity into everything I do, from maintaining the gardens to ensuring a clean and welcoming environment. 

It also means working with respect, supporting my colleagues, and taking pride in representing the hotel’s image through every task." 

Can you share a proud moment from your work as a gardener?

"Some of my proudest moments come from preparing the gardens for important events or official visits. On these occasions, I was praised by management for the quality of my work. Seeing guests take photos or relax in the gardens gives me immense satisfaction. 

I am also proud of how much I have learned on the job; everything I do today is built with my own hands and dedication." 

What advice would you give to newcomers in hospitality?

"Always work diligently and consistently, because every detail counts. Even simple or repetitive tasks affect the guest experience and the hotel’s image. 

Remember that no one works alone, respect and support between colleagues are essential. Stay curious, keep learning, and take pride in the work you do, no matter your role."
