Starting as a Receptionist and now thriving as an Expert Housekeeper, Yanis has embraced every opportunity along the way.
In this interview, Yanis shares insights into his career path, the challenges he's faced, and what it means to be a Heartist®.
How did you first get into the hospitality industry?
"At 15, I had to choose a career path in the French education system. After visiting a culinary school twice, I fell in love with it.
That’s how I got into hospitality, even though no one in my family worked in the sector. The school had amazing facilities, with kitchens and restaurants, and the teachers were great."
What was your first experience working in hospitality?
"My first job was a four-month internship in the south of France, where I worked lunch and dinner service at a restaurant and managed the front desk.
It was exciting to be away from home, meet new people, and serve guests who were different from those in Paris."
How did you grow your career from there?
"After the internship, I did an apprenticeship, which was my first step toward becoming a full-time employee.
I then went on to complete two more years of apprenticeship and gained a professional license in hospitality, followed by an international master’s degree in hospitality and catering."

What does your current role as an expert housekeeper involve?
"As an Expert Housekeeper, I manage a team of Housekeepers and oversee the service from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
My day starts with two hours of planning, ensuring that everyone knows their tasks for the day. It’s a role with more responsibilities than a typical Housekeeper."
What do you enjoy about working at Accor?
"I love that Accor is a big group with many growth opportunities. You can move within your hotel or even explore different services across the group.
I’ve had five positions at Pullman in just three years - Receptionist, Assistant Night Manager, night manager, Housekeeper, and now Expert Housekeeper. The possibilities are endless."
What does being a Heartist® mean to you?
"Being a Heartist® means being part of something bigger. It’s about knowing the hotel and Accor’s procedures inside out to ensure our guests have a seamless experience.
There’s a connection between all the hotels and staff, and that makes you feel like part of a family."
What advice would you give to someone looking to grow their career at Accor?
"Listen to what guests and your trainers say. Pay attention, take notes - those basics make all the difference.
If you have big expectations for your career, you need to be interested in your work and work hard. Guests will notice that, and it will push you forward."
