Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Financial Controller to lead the Finance function at Mercure Melbourne Doncaster. This pivotal role is responsible for driving financial performance, ensuring robust compliance, and partnering with the Hotel Leadership Team to support strategic decision-making

 

About the Role

As the Financial Controller, you will oversee all financial operations of the hotel, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance across reporting, payroll, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and statutory obligations. You will act as a key business partner to the General Manager, Owners, Regional Finance teams, and Department Heads.

This role requires strong leadership, exceptional financial acumen, and the ability to translate data into strategic insights that drive profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Hotel Finance Department.
  • Deliver timely and accurate weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure full compliance with Accor policies and local legislative requirements.
  • Oversee AP, AR, Payroll, and Cashiering functions.
  • Drive budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
  • Manage statutory reporting including BAS, Payroll Tax, FBT, WorkCover and annual audits.
  • Provide strategic financial analysis to support operational and commercial decisions.
  • Build strong partnerships with internal stakeholders and external bodies including ATO, auditors, banks, and suppliers.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop finance team members while fostering Accor’s Heartist culture.

Qualifications

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting/Finance; CA or CPA qualified.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role within hospitality.
  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting standards, tax, super, NES and compliance requirements.
  • Proficient in hospitality systems ,( Opera, PurchasePlus,  WageEasy – desirable).
  • Exceptional communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage high-volume workloads and meet strict deadlines.
