Job Description

This is your opportunity to bring your passion for cooking and culinary skills to Brisbane’s premier luxury hotel. Join a team where creativity, innovation, and fresh ideas are celebrated, and contribute to maintaining the highest standards in the kitchen.

As a Commis Chef, you will be an integral part of the kitchen brigade, working closely with senior chefs to assist in preparing and presenting exceptional dishes. You will support the kitchen operations under the guidance of the Executive Chef and Sous Chef, helping to maintain the hotel’s reputation for top-quality dining.

In this role, you will learn and develop your skills across different kitchens, ensuring that each dish is prepared to perfection, in line with the Sofitel brand's luxurious and French-inspired culinary style.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Assist senior chefs in preparing and presenting dishes to the highest standards
  • Learn and work across multiple kitchen sections, gaining hands-on experience in all areas
  • Contribute to the preparation and design of new menus, focusing on quality, elegance, and seasonal ingredients
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen, following strict hygiene and safety standards
  • Support kitchen staff and help ensure smooth, efficient kitchen operations
  • Assist with the preparation of food orders, ensuring timely delivery and presentation
  • Be involved in inventory control and waste management to ensure cost-effective kitchen operations

Qualifications

You will excel in this role if you have:

  • Previous experience in a similar role within a luxury or five-star environment
  • Trade Qualification in Commercial Cookery
  • In-depth knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards, with a strong commitment to maintaining kitchen safety
  • A genuine passion for working at Sofitel Brisbane Central and a desire to grow professionally within the brand
  • A strong focus on delivering exceptional food quality and guest experiences
  • Enthusiastic, professional, and dedicated to maintaining high standards
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • A friendly, approachable demeanor with impeccable personal presentation.
