Job Description

Reporting to the Engineering Leadership Team, the Overnight Property Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all hotel building systems during overnight hours. This position responds to guest service requests, performs preventive and corrective maintenance, monitors life safety and building automation systems, and addresses emergency maintenance issues while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and guest service.

Job Duties

  • Respond promptly to guest room maintenance requests and emergency service calls during the overnight shift.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment including boilers, pumps, air handling units, fan coil units, compressors, heat pumps, domestic water systems, and other building infrastructure.
  • Monitor and operate the Building Management System (BMS) to ensure all building systems are functioning efficiently.
  • Conduct regular inspections of mechanical rooms, plant equipment, fire and life safety systems, and public areas.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and basic carpentry issues.
  • Complete scheduled overnight preventive maintenance tasks in guest rooms and public spaces.
  • Record equipment readings, maintenance activities, and shift reports accurately while maintaining ABSA compliance where applicable.
  • Respond to alarms and assist during emergency situations, following hotel emergency procedures.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, parts, and maintenance supplies required for overnight operations.
  • Ensure work areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Communicate effectively with the Engineering team through detailed shift handovers.
  • Assist other departments with operational support as required during overnight hours.

Qualifications

  • ABSA 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate required.
  • Previous experience in hotel engineering, commercial building maintenance, or facility operations preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general building maintenance.
  • Alberta recognized pool operator course considered an asset
  • Valid Canadian driver's license.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting, climbing ladders, and working in various indoor and outdoor environments.

Working Conditions

  • Permanent overnight schedule.
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays as required.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations.
  • Work involves standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting materials, and working in mechanical spaces.
