Job Description

What you will be doing:

As the Staff Accountant you will assist in the following areas in accounting: General Cashier, Accounts Payables, and Income Audit.

Assists with the supervision and coordination of the accounting operation in the hotel.  Ensures the proper processing of bills to be paid in a timely and accurate manner.  Candidate will also assist in the collection of direct billing. 

Your experience and skills include:

  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service oriented manner
  • Comply at all times with Sofitel standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations
  • Process the income audit as needed
  • Process and reconcile PO's and invoices per company SOP
  • Reconcile payment processing versus bank output
  • Responsible for all Receivable and Payable filing
  • Assist in month end processing
  • Issue house banks to cash-handling employees
  • Perform house bank audits according to company policy
  • Issue due backs to cash-handling employees
  • Perform a daily count of main house bank and document results. Send a copy daily to the Assistant Controller.
  • Prepare and maintain Over/Short Report by cashier on a daily basis and forward to Assistant Controller at month-end.
  • Count and document all house banks quarterly on a surprise basis
  • Prepare a quarterly summary of  house banks
  • Maintain current house bank contracts. Issue cashier safety deposit boxes as required
  • Report all cash discrepancies immediately to the Assistant Controller.
  • Make petty cash disbursements according to company policy
  • Assist with cashier training and be available as needed to support cashiers in resolving problems with cash handling procedures
  • Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule to meet business demands. Assist with additional projects or requests as needed
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Controller and/or Assistant Controller
  • This position pays between $33-36/hour

Qualifications

  • Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions
  • Must be able to list up to 25 pounds
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in accounting required
  • Strong verbal skills and must able to read English
  • Visa Requirements: Must be legally eligible to work in the United States. The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining work authorization documents
