Job Description

Server - TEMPORARY

As a Server with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, you will be an ambassador for the exceptional service and cuisine that are hallmarks of our dining experience. Your warm, personal attention and knowledge of our outstanding Food & Beverage offerings makes guests of our restaurants and lounges feel unique and valued.

This is a temporary role starting October 11, 2024 until January 1st 2025.

Shifts are Tuesday through till Saturday, starting at 17:00 until 23:00.

What you will be doing:

  • Consistently offer a professional, thoughtful, caring and sincere service to each guest
  • Assist guests regarding food and beverage menu items in an informative and helpful way
  • Follow outlet policies, procedures and service standards
  • Have full knowledge of beverage lists and promotions
  • Have full knowledge of all menu items, garnishes, contents and preparation methods
  • Have working knowledge of wine varietals & regions – including description of all white and red wine by the glass
  • Follow all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and beverage
  • Be aware of dietary and allergy concerns and communicate accordingly
  • Be knowledgeable about all menu offerings, garnishes, contents and preparation methods, including house wine list and promotions
  • Ensure prompt delivery and quality of the product
  • Ensure the proper set up of all mise en place and side stations in the outlet
  • Be able to perform function room set up’s/ tear down’s – moving and setting tables, chairs, cutlery & linen
  • Must be able to serve in a private dining room setting, including day and night functions
  • Work well as a team player and representative of the Food and Beverage Department
  • Excellent communication with Kitchen and Serving staff to ensure timeliness of service
  • Assist with running food from the kitchen to the tables, assist with bussing and resetting tables in a fast paced environment
  • Have ability to make specialty coffees and utilize an espresso/specialty coffee machine
  • Other duties as assigned

Please note actual hours worked will fluctuate based on business needs.


Qualifications

Your skills and experience include:

  • 1-2 years serving experience in an upscale dining establishment required
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings and weekends
  • Knowledge of wines, spirits, beer, cocktails, and specialty coffees
  • Serving it Right certification required
  • Previous point of sale system experience an asset
  • Proven organizational and multitasking skills in a fast-pace environment
  • Demonstrated ability to be warm & sincere
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
  • Highly responsible & reliable
  • Impeccable grooming
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English
  • Proven ability to problem solve
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team
  • Ability to resolve guest inquiries and concerns in a timely manner
  • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times

Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to): 

  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs
  • Frequent kneeling, pushing and pulling
  • Frequent ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps
  • Proven ability to carry three entrée plates or more at one time

Visa Requirements:
Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
