Job Description

Second Cook

Every memorable dining experience at Fairmont Hotels and Resorts begins behind the scenes with our Culinary team’s commitment to safe, efficient operations and exceptional cuisine. As a Second Cook, the care you devote to preparing each menu item will not go unnoticed by the guests who are fortunate enough to enjoy them! 

This is a full-time, permanent position and we are looking for Second Cooks to start immediately.

Pay Rate: $22.05 per hour

We recognize tenure through our compensation - hourly rates increase after 6 months and then yearly to three years. At three years the pay rate for this role would be $26.75.

Job Duties Include:   

  • Prepare, cook and service all food items for a la carte and buffet menus, or individual dishes
  • Organize and manage buffets and banquets
  • Follow kitchen policies, procedures and service standards, and follow all safety and sanitation policies
  • Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment
  • Ensure proper labeling, dating and storage of all items in the kitchen
  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of work areas, utensils, and equipment
  • Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances and handle guest allergy concerns with appropriate care and importance by reporting to Sous Chef

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years in the culinary field required
  • Diploma/Certification in a Culinary discipline required
  • Journeyman’s papers or international equivalent an asset
  • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times 

Physicals aspects include but are not limited to:

  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50+ lbs
  • Frequent kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps

Additional Information

Visa Requirements: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
