Job Description

Event Sales Manager

At Fairmont Vancouver Airport, our engaging service and delicious cuisine make every special event a truly memorable affair, both within our distinctive surroundings and off-site. Be an ambassador for our exceptional offerings as Event Sales Manager, where you will liaise between multiple departments to meet the needs – and exceed the expectations – of your clients.

What you will be doing:

 

Reporting to the Director of Sales & Marketing, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service
  • Work with the Senior Event Sales Manager to oversee all scheduled functions and to ensure all Fairmont Standards for Conference Services are maintained
  • Respond to all inquiries regarding catering space availability and guestroom blocks in a professional and timely manner
  • Maintain a variety of accounts to include social, corporate, incentive, and association
  • Conduct prospecting to grow business each week, through sales calls in marketplace, entertainment of clients and site visits on an ongoing basis
  • Ensure open communication with all operating departments to ensure awareness of client’s requirements
  • Build partnership with the Banquet team to ensure service standards are maintained
  • Build relationships between Sales and the Operating Departments
  • Conduct site inspections for conventions, weddings, corporate and group business
  • Assist with forecasting and budgets as required
  • Expedite function bookings, writing menus, preparing resumes, event orders etc.
  • Compile and distribute conference agendas and event orders
  • Ensure the efficiency of Opera to track, solicit, book, produce EO’s, and follow up on accounts
  • Ensure all contractual terms agreed upon are carried out as well as to maximize function space for the highest profitability for the hotel
  • Assist in developing new business ideas and the promotion of existing business within all our market segments
  • Resolve guest complaints when necessary
  • Ensure close relationships are established and maintained with clients to encourage repeat business
  • Conduct Post Conference meetings with departing groups to address strengths and weaknesses of an event while soliciting repeat business
  • Facilitate daily Catering/Banquet/Kitchen meetings to ensure perfection in service delivery
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Your experience and skills include:

 

  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a Catering Manager, Conference Services Manager, or Executive Meeting Manager in a four star hotel. Five diamond experience an asset
  • Hospitality Management Degree or a Post-Secondary Degree an asset
  • Previous leadership experience is an asset
  • Extensive Food and Beverage knowledge
  • Knowledge of meeting space capacities pertaining to health and safety procedures and terminology of meeting room set-ups
  • Extensive knowledge of  Opera, Office, and Windows based programs
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proven leadership, organizational skills, and staff development skills with good decision making abilities
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Must possess a strong sense of exceeding in providing quality service to our internal and external customers
  • Assertive, self-starter, self-motivator with a high degree of professionalism
  • Must be able to and enjoy working in a busy environment with minimum supervision

Visa Requirements: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.  The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
