Job Description

  • Conduct routine inspections of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, and plant rooms to identify maintenance issues and safety hazards.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on building services, plant, equipment, fixtures, and fittings in accordance with the hotel's preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Respond promptly to emergency maintenance situations if required
  • Ensure all maintenance work is completed in accordance with workplace health and safety legislation, hotel policies, and safe work practices.
  • Accurately record completed maintenance work, faults identified, and materials used through the hotel's maintenance management system.
  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining essential services, including air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, refrigeration, and mechanical systems within the scope of qualifications and competency.
  • Ensure appropriate tools, equipment, spare parts, and workshop areas are maintained in a clean, organised, and serviceable condition.
  • Report any major defects, safety concerns, or equipment failures to the Chief Engineer or designated delegate without delay.
  • Minimise disruption to guests by carrying out maintenance work professionally, discreetly, and with consideration for guest comfort.
  • Provide courteous and professional service to guests and colleagues, responding positively to maintenance enquiries and requests.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of hotel facilities, plant, and operating procedures to ensure efficient fault diagnosis and repairs.
  • Participate in departmental training, toolbox meetings, and ongoing development to maintain technical knowledge and hotel standards.
  • Ensure all work areas are secured and left in a safe condition following completion of maintenance activities.
  • Report any identified risks, hazards, or incidents in accordance with the hotel's Work Health and Safety procedures.
  • Support the Engineering team with refurbishment projects, room upgrades, and capital works as directed.

Qualifications

  • Previous hotel experience desired
  • Previous handyman/maintenance experience 
  • Electrical or plumbing certificate advantageous but not essential
  • Must have full working rights for Australia
  • Ability to work a rotating roster including evenings, weekends and public holidays
  • Great command of the English language to communicate clearly with guests and staff alike
