Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and visionary **Director of Engineering** to join our organization in Baghdad, Iraq. Under the general guidance of senior management, the Director of Engineering will establish and direct overall engineering, maintenance, and safety objectives while providing strategic leadership to the engineering department. This role is pivotal in ensuring that all facility systems, equipment, and infrastructure operate at peak efficiency while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance. The successful candidate will drive innovation, foster a collaborative team environment, and champion operational excellence across all engineering initiatives.

  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with senior management, staff, and key stakeholders to support engineering and facility management functions across the organization.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive short and long-term strategic plans for facility management and engineering operations.
  • Define, maintain, and continuously improve service levels and support models to protect capital investments and ensure optimal operational environments.
  • Manage operating and capital budgets for building repairs, maintenance, and engineering projects, ensuring efficient resource allocation and cost control.
  • Oversee third-party vendors and contractors to ensure compliance with project scope, schedule, budget, service levels, and quality standards.
  • Ensure comprehensive workplace health and safety compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, codes, and company policies for employees and visitors.
  • Provide technical expertise on building systems, energy management, and infrastructure while developing facility engineering standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Lead project management efforts for construction and facility improvement initiatives, including contract negotiation, administration, and stakeholder communication.
  • Supervise and mentor the engineering team by prioritizing work, scheduling maintenance tasks, and ensuring timely completion of service requests while fostering professional development.
  • Maintain and oversee all hotel systems and equipment (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, security systems, etc.), while ensuring accurate service and repair documentation.
  • Collaborate with other departments to identify and implement initiatives that improve operational efficiency, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to provide clear direction to team members and stakeholders.
  • Remain calm, alert, and decisive during emergency situations, taking appropriate action to protect personnel and assets.
  • Make informed decisions based on experience, analytical judgment, and data-driven insights, adapting procedures to accommodate unique operational challenges.
  • Champion a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and inclusive teamwork throughout the engineering department.

Qualifications

**Required Qualifications:**

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Hospitality Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on maintenance and engineering experience in a professional environment.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or leadership experience managing engineering or maintenance teams.
  • Proficient knowledge of computer systems and software, including Opera, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Comprehensive understanding of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, and security systems.
  • Strong budget management and financial analysis capabilities.
  • Demonstrated project management experience with ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical information clearly.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws governing occupational safety and health, labor relations, and equal employment opportunity.
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make decisive, data-driven decisions.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively to promote teamwork and inclusive environments.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

  • Experience in upscale, lifestyle brand, or hospitality environments.
  • Expertise in energy management and sustainability initiatives.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure planning and capital asset management.
  • Experience with vendor management and third-party contractor oversight.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance standards and safety certifications.
  • Demonstrated track record of implementing process improvements and operational efficiencies.
  • Experience developing and mentoring high-performing engineering teams.
  • Knowledge of emergency response protocols and business continuity planning.
