Job Description

Job Summary:

The Chief Engineer at Mercure Ismailia, Egypt is responsible for the overall supervision, management, and leadership of the engineering department. This role ensures the smooth operation of all resort facilities, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. The Chief Engineer plays a crucial role in maintaining the resort’s safety standards, managing energy efficiency, and providing a high level of service to both internal and external guests.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Team Management:

    • Lead and supervise the engineering team, including recruiting, training, and developing staff to maintain a highly skilled and motivated team.
    • Assign tasks, manage shifts, and oversee daily operations of the engineering department.
    • Provide technical expertise and support for maintenance staff.
  2. Maintenance and Operations:

    • Oversee all maintenance programs, preventive maintenance, and repairs for all Hotel equipment, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety systems.
    • Ensure that all hotel facilities and systems are functioning efficiently and in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
    • Manage day-to-day operational issues, ensuring quick and efficient problem resolution to minimize downtime and guest inconvenience.
  3. Budget and Financial Management:

    • Prepare and manage the department's budget, including controlling costs related to maintenance, energy consumption, and capital expenditures.
    • Ensure proper inventory control of parts and supplies, as well as efficient energy and water management to optimize operational expenses.
    • Monitor and analyze energy consumption, looking for cost-saving opportunities.
  4. Health, Safety, and Compliance:

    • Ensure all building systems comply with health and safety regulations, including fire safety systems, emergency lighting, and building security.
    • Oversee regular safety inspections and ensure compliance with all local, national, and international standards and regulations.
    • Act as the key contact during emergencies and ensure the safety of guests and employees.
  5. Capital Projects and Renovations:

    • Oversee engineering aspects of capital projects, renovations, and upgrades within the resort, ensuring work is completed on time and within budget.
    • Collaborate with external contractors and service providers as needed for large-scale projects and technical services.
  6. Collaboration with Other Departments:

    • Work closely with the housekeeping, front office, and food & beverage departments to ensure all guest areas and back-of-house operations are in optimal condition.
    • Assist in setting up rooms, conference facilities, and event spaces when engineering support is needed.
    • Provide timely communication and status updates on engineering tasks to hotel management.
  7. Sustainability and Environmental Initiatives:

    • Develop and implement energy conservation and sustainability initiatives to reduce the resort's environmental impact.
    • Collaborate with the management team on environmental sustainability efforts, ensuring alignment with the hotel's corporate responsibility policies.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in hotel engineering or facilities management, with at least 3 years in a senior engineering leadership role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety.
  • Experience in budgeting, project management, and contractor management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices and energy management systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with local regulations, building codes, and safety standards.

  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and systems, including BMS (Building Management Systems).
