Job Description

As Chief Accountant, you will support the Director of Finance and Business Support in maintaining the highest standards of financial governance, accuracy and compliance.

  • You will oversee the daily operations of the Accounting Department, coordinate statutory and tax reporting, manage month-end and year-end closing, and maintain effective internal controls. You will also create a collaborative environment in which colleagues feel trusted, supported and inspired to grow.
  • Your key responsibilities
  • Lead, motivate and develop the Accounting Team, fostering collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Accounting Department, ensuring an accurate and efficient workflow.
  • Manage month-end and year-end closing processes in line with the agreed timetable.
  • Prepare statutory financial statements and month-end Profit and Loss reports.
  • Oversee VAT, CIT and withholding tax settlements, as well as JPK_CIT and KSeF compliance.
  • Ensure the timely preparation, submission and payment of statutory declarations, taxes and public-law liabilities.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, accounting provisions, payroll postings and fixed asset records.
  • Review and approve accounting transactions, journal entries, supplier invoices, credit notes and payments.
  • Investigate financial variances and ensure that any identified issues are resolved promptly.
  • Coordinate documentation and activities related to internal and external audits.
  • Maintain appropriate segregation of duties and a robust internal control environment.
  • Liaise with tax authorities, external auditors, banks and other key partners.
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess their impact on the hotel’s accounting processes.
  • Ensure compliance with Polish accounting regulations, tax legislation and Company policies.

Qualifications

  • A university degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related discipline.
  • Significant professional accounting experience, including experience in a senior or team leadership position.
  • Excellent knowledge of Polish accounting and tax regulations, particularly VAT, CIT, withholding tax, JPK_CIT and KSeF.
  • Practical experience in statutory reporting and managing month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Experience working with external auditors, tax authorities and banks.
  • A strong understanding of internal controls, financial compliance and segregation of duties.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach and develop an accounting team.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to meet demanding deadlines.
  • Professional proficiency in Polish and English.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with accounting systems.
