Job Description

Be a part of a spectacular event! As a Banquet Head Houseperson with The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, you will create a special event that our Guests will remember. Your ability to work as a team player combined with your service skills and your engaging personality will ensure that our Guests have a memorable experience.

What you will be doing:

Reporting to the Director of Banquets, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Consistently offers professional, engaging and friendly service
  • Ensure the general set up of meeting spaces is complete as per service standards and event orders
  • Ensure post conference tear down and preparation for following groups, reporting room deficiencies to supervisor
  • Support department; assisting food & beverage outlets in such ways as setting buffets; staging events & theme décor
  • Build, set, serve and tear down of coffee breaks
  • Review banquet event orders to ensure the proper set-ups are in place
  • Service of continental breakfasts and working lunches
  • Communicate, anticipate & cater to the every need of group conveners and members for the duration of their stay; ensuring they are comfortable and all expectations are exceeded
  • Assist with coaching and training the Banquet Houseperson team
  • Assume responsibility for all banquet facilities, including cleanliness, repair and maintenance, reporting any deficiencies as required
  • Maintain all storage areas
  • Conduct pre-function meeting with houseperson team
  • Be flexible to change under tight time constraints while still keeping to schedule
  • Support in house audio visual suppliers (PSAV) where required
  • Liaise with the Conference Services/Catering Department to ensure events are executed successfully
  • Liaise with onsite meeting planner to ensure clients’ needs are being meet
  • Balance operational, administrative and Colleague needs
  • Participate in regularly scheduled departmental meetings
  • Ensure outlet policies, procedures and service standards are followed
  • Ensure all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and beverage are followed
  • Adhere to the hotel’s vehicle handling and safety policies while driving hotel and guest vehicles
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Your qualifications and skills include:

  • Previous food & beverage leadership experience preferred
  • Previous banquet or convention houseperson experience an asset
  • Food & Beverage training and experience an asset
  • Proserve Certification required
  • University/College degree in a related discipline an asset
  • Ability to multitask and work well under pressure in a fast paced environment
  • Previous knowledge of audio visual equipment an asset
  • Possess the ability to adapt, overcome & improvise
  • Must have strong English communication and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
  • Ability to delegate tasks to team members
  • Highly responsible & reliable
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work cohesively as part of a team
  • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times
  • Must meet the minimum requirements on the Gallup Online Assessment for Front of House
  • Take ownership of duties and work unsupervised
  • Must be self motivated and a strong team player
  • Be willing to make decisions in support of excellent guest service
  • Great eye for Detail
  • Must possess a Valid Alberta Driver's License

Physical Aspects of Position (includes but not limited to):          

  • Sitting: 1-2hrs/day
  • Walking: 7-8hrs/day
  • Standing: 1-2hrs/day
  • Lifting: 5-6hrs/day does not lift weights over 50lbs
  • Bending/reaching: 2-3hrs/day
  • Pushing/pulling: 1-2 hrs/day
  • Visual Effort: high
  • Environmental Stress: busy atmosphere, both internal and external temperatures

Visa Requirements: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
