Job Description
The Multi-Skilled Plumber-Handyman is responsible for maintaining, repairing, installing, and improving plumbing systems, fixtures, fittings, and general building elements throughout the hotel or hospitality property.
The role supports the Engineering and Operations teams by ensuring guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, kitchens, offices, plant rooms, and other facilities are maintained to a high standard, with minimal disruption to guests.
Plumbing & Water Systems
- Carry out general plumbing, repair, installation, and maintenance work throughout the property.
- Maintain and repair hot and cold-water supply systems, pipework, valves, pumps, storage tanks, and circulation systems.
- Repair and maintain toilets, showers, baths, sinks, taps, mixers, flush valves, and other sanitary fixtures.
- Identify and repair water leaks, blocked drains, damaged pipework, and defective plumbing fixtures.
- Carry out installation, replacement, modification, and testing of plumbing systems and equipment.
- Maintain and repair drainage, waste, sewage, and storm-water systems.
- Inspect and maintain pumps, valves, water heaters, and associated equipment.
- Monitor hot-water temperatures in accordance with hotel procedures and water hygiene requirements.
- Assist with Legionella prevention and water hygiene procedures as required.
General Handyman & Building Maintenance
- Carry out general handyman and maintenance tasks throughout the property.
- Repair and maintain doors, locks, handles, hinges, closers, cabinets, shelves, fixtures, fittings, and other building elements.
- Carry out minor repairs to walls, ceilings, flooring, tiles, and decorative finishes.
- Perform basic painting, filling, sanding, sealing, and touch-up works.
- Assemble, install, adjust, and repair furniture, fixtures, fittings, and equipment.
- Carry out minor repairs to guest-room and public-area fixtures and fittings.
- Assist with room renovations, refurbishment projects, and general building maintenance.
- Use appropriate tools, equipment, and materials safely and correctly.
Multi-Skilled Maintenance Support
- Assist other Engineering team members with maintenance tasks within training and competence.
- Support carpentry, painting, basic mechanical, electrical, and building maintenance tasks where appropriately trained.
- Assist with preventive maintenance programs and refurbishment projects.
- Work closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, Food & Beverage, Kitchen, and other departments to resolve maintenance issues.
- Support other trades and Engineering team members during larger maintenance and project works.
- Perform tasks outside of traditional plumbing duties when reasonably required and within training, competence, and safety requirements.
Preventive Maintenance
- Complete scheduled preventive maintenance inspections and tasks.
- Identify leaks, damaged fixtures, deteriorating building elements, and other potential problems before they become guest complaints.
- Inspect plumbing systems, bathrooms, fixtures, doors, furniture, walls, ceilings, and other areas as part of routine maintenance.
- Report major defects, safety concerns, water hygiene risks, or required replacement works to the Chief Engineer.
- Maintain appropriate records of completed maintenance work.
- Follow up on outstanding maintenance issues and ensure they are completed within agreed timeframes
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Plumber, Handyman, Maintenance Technician, or in a similar role, preferably within a hotel or hospitality environment.
- Good practical knowledge of plumbing systems, water supply, drainage, sanitary fixtures, pumps, and valves.
- Basic knowledge of general maintenance, including carpentry, painting, tiling, and minor building repairs.
- Relevant vocational or technical qualification in Plumbing, Maintenance, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Good problem-solving skills, a proactive attitude, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
