Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytically minded Hotel Accountant to join our Finance team in Johannesburg, South Africa. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will play a vital role in supporting the financial operations of our hotel property, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong financial controls, and compliance with South African statutory requirements and company policies.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated finance professional to work closely with operational teams, contribute to the hotel's overall financial performance, and develop expertise in hospitality finance within a collaborative and supportive environment.

  • Prepare and process monthly financial reports and month-end closing activities in a timely and accurate manner, maintaining organized records and documentation
  • Manage payroll processing, ensuring full compliance with South African legislative requirements, including SARS, UIF, PAYE, and relevant tax obligations
  • Oversee accounts payable and cashiering functions, processing transactions accurately and efficiently while maintaining strong internal controls
  • Assist with Profit & Loss reporting, budgeting, and forecasting, including monitoring financial performance against expectations and identifying variances
  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies with analytical rigor and transparency
  • Maintain accurate financial records, reconciliations, and supporting documentation in accordance with company policies and accounting standards
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, financial policies, and company procedures through proactive monitoring and communication
  • Process accounts receivable transactions, monitor outstanding balances, and follow up on overdue invoices in a professional and collaborative manner
  • Conduct financial and departmental variance analysis, providing meaningful insights and recommendations to support management decision-making
  • Work closely with hotel operational teams to identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities for improved commercial performance
  • Support internal and external audit processes, including preparation of required documentation, schedules, and supporting information
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, and reporting efficiencies

Qualifications

**Skills & Experience**

  • Previous experience in hotel accounting, payroll, hospitality finance, or a similar commercial finance environment
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting principles, reporting, and reconciliation processes
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide meaningful commercial insights
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with both Finance and operational teams
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of South African tax and legislative requirements, including SARS, UIF, and PAYE compliance
  • Proficiency with accounting software and hotel finance systems
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain transparency and integrity in financial reporting

Preferred Skills & Tools

  • Experience with payroll processing systems and hotel management software
  • Familiarity with Q&A reporting tools and financial analysis platforms
  • Knowledge of Accor systems or similar hospitality management platforms
  • Experience with SunSystems or comparable accounting software

Education & Certifications

  • Accounting qualification such as ACCA, CPA, or equivalent professional accounting credential
  • Full working rights in South Africa
