As the Environmental Systems Manager, you will lead our sustainability initiatives, ensuring we meet all Accor and Fairmont environmental commitments while respecting the natural beauty that surrounds us. This role is perfect for a leader passionate about driving impactful change and maintaining our legacy as a responsible and forward-thinking hotel.

Competitive Salary:  $68,000-$70,000 gross annually, based on previous experience & education.

Job Duties Include:

  • Reporting to the Director of Engineering, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive sustainability strategy tailored to Fairmont Banff Springs, aligning with Accor Environmental Sustainability Goals and Fairmont’s sustainability goals.
  • Identify and evaluate sustainability opportunities and risks and develop appropriate measures to address any risks and opportunities. 
  • Lead forward-thinking sustainability initiatives that position Fairmont Banff Springs as an industry leader in environmental stewardship
  • Oversee and manage key sustainability projects including but not limited to third-party certification, carbon, water, waste, food waste and single-use plastic.
  • Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration to ensure seamless execution of sustainability initiatives throughout the hotel.
  • Continuously review policies and operational practices to drive improvements in sustainability performance.
  • Proactively identify challenges and implement timely, effective solutions.
  • Act as key the contact between the corporate sustainability team and the Regional Director, Sustainability.
  • Lead the hotel’s Sustainability Committee, engaging both colleagues and leadership to foster a culture of environmental responsibility
  • Provide day-to-day support for hotel to drive hotel sustainability performance.
  • Lead a cross-departmental strategic sustainability committee to ensure integration of initiatives. Provide guidance and direction to hotel leadership teams.
  • Training – conduct or develop sustainability onboarding training and materials to ensure all employees are aware of Accor and Fairmont’ sustainability commitments and the specific actions they can take in their roles.
  • Organize key regional communication and activation opportunities to amplify the hotel’s sustainability efforts and enhance sustainability education and engagement among guests and colleagues.
  • Develop and maintain pitch document(s) for the sales team to use in wining business from sustainability-focused clients and for T&C to use in the recruiting process.
  • Build partnerships with local organizations, suppliers, and community stakeholders to further advance sustainability efforts.
  • Track and report on key sustainability metrics, including energy and water usage, food waste, single-use plastics reduction, and overall waste management
  • Conduct property audits and provide feedback and guidance to the Executive team. Collect and analyze sustainability data and indicators related to help informed decision-making.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of management experience, preferably in hotel operations or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Hospitality Management, Sustainability, Environmental Studies, or a related discipline.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills to engage employees, guests, and stakeholders.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and adapt to evolving priorities.
  • Proven ability to inspire and lead cross-functional teams toward achieving sustainability goals.
  • Passion for sustainability and a deep understanding of environmental best practices within the hospitality industry.

Additional Information

Visa Requirements: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
