Novotel Queenstown Lakeside is seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to oversee all engineering, maintenance, compliance, hotel landscaping and asset management across our busy 4-star hotel.

Located in the heart of Queenstown, our hotel offers a dynamic environment where no two days are the same. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering outstanding guest experiences while protecting one of Queenstown's premier hospitality assets.

About the Role

Reporting to the Executive Assistant Manager, you will lead the Engineering department and be responsible for the ongoing maintenance, safety, compliance and presentation of the hotel and staff accommodation.

You will develop and deliver preventative maintenance programs, manage contractors and capital projects, oversee statutory compliance, and ensure all hotel facilities operate safely and efficiently.

This is a leadership position requiring excellent technical knowledge, strong organisational skills and the ability to build positive working relationships across all departments.


Job Description

  • Lead and manage the Engineering and Maintenance team.
  • Deliver preventative maintenance programs and oversee day-to-day repairs and capital projects.
  • Ensure all hotel plant, equipment and building services are maintained to a high standard.
  • Manage contractors, permits, compliance documentation and statutory maintenance requirements.
  • Oversee fire safety systems, emergency preparedness and Health & Safety compliance.
  • Monitor maintenance budgets, asset registers and engineering records.
  • Work closely with Front Office and Housekeeping to maximise room availability and guest satisfaction.
  • Drive sustainability initiatives and continuous improvement across the property.
  • Prepare maintenance reports and respond to after-hours emergencies when required.
  • Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of the company's staff accommodation, ensuring timely repairs and compliance with company standards.

Qualifications

  • You will be an experienced maintenance leader who enjoys solving problems and leading by example.
  • Previous experience as a Chief Engineer, Engineering Manager or Senior Maintenance Manager within hospitality, accommodation or commercial facilities.

  • Strong knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire systems and mechanical services.

  • Excellent understanding of New Zealand Health & Safety requirements.
  • Experience managing contractors, maintenance budgets and compliance documentation.
  • Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.
  • A proactive approach with the ability to prioritise competing demands.
  • The flexibility to respond to after-hours emergencies when required.

  • Flexibility to work weekend or public holiday.

  • Full New Zealand working rights.
