Key Responsibilities:

Department leadership

  • Lead the Accounts Department day to day, managing the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll and Stores teams
  • Run bi-weekly Finance Office briefings and monthly Finance Department meetings
  • Build strong cross-training and succession planning, with enough knowledge of every finance role to train new team members

  • Prepare daily interface journals from the Property Management System, keeping the guest, deposit and accounts receivable ledgers in balance with the General Ledger
  • Approve accounts payable journals and creditor payment runs, and oversee the inventory-to-payables interface
  • Issue and manage the month-end timetable, preparing journals for wages, accruals, prepayments, stock movements and allocations
  • Complete monthly reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts and produce accounts to trial balance for the Director of Finance
  • Oversee debt collection and bad debt provisioning in line with Sovereign Operations guidelines
  • Manage travel agent and frequent flyer commission accruals and payments

Reporting, budgets and forecasts

  • Deliver accurate, timely reporting, including monthly operating statements, F&B outlet statements, capital expenditure reports, daily revenue reports and weekly wage analysis
  • Help prepare the annual budget and monthly departmental forecasts, and manage budget uploads into Sun and TM1
  • Assist with the owner’s half-yearly and year-end financial schedules
  • Help department heads understand hotel systems, financial results, budgets and forecasts

Payroll and payments

  • Oversee the timely payment of creditors, wages, commissions and tax, including foreign payments and internet banking
  • Audit weekly payroll and sign off master file changes, pay rate changes and new hires
  • Act as a Class “B” bank account signatory, signing together with a Class “A” signatory

Compliance and controls

  • Lodge statutory reports and returns accurately and on time, including BAS (GST), payroll tax, PAYG withholding, PPCA, workers’ compensation and ABS reporting
  • Make sure Elysium, Accor and Sovereign Operations policies are implemented and internal controls are working effectively
  • Maintain compliance with the Accor Internal Audit program and ensure all internal and external audit recommendations are actioned
  • Oversee compliance with GST, privacy, AML/CTF, superannuation, immigration, Queensland WorkCover and gaming regulatory requirements, including daily and monthly gaming cash reconciliations

Qualifications

  • A degree in Accounting, Finance or Commerce; CA or CPA qualified (or working towards it)
  • Experience in hotel or hospitality finance, ideally in a supervisory or assistant controller role
  • Strong knowledge of hotel accounting systems, reconciliations, month-end processes and internal controls
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting and management reporting
  • The ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance managers
  • A sharp eye for detail and the confidence to question numbers that don’t look right
  • Experience with Accor policies or audit programs is highly regarded

Additional Information
