Job Description

To assist the Director of Engineering in overseeing all aspects of hotel maintenance, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of engineering systems, equipment, and facilities. The Assistant Director of Engineering plays a key leadership role in managing the engineering team, supporting preventive maintenance, sustainability efforts, and readiness for daily operations and emergencies.

Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Supervise daily maintenance and repair activities throughout the property, including guest rooms, public areas, kitchens, back-of-house, and mechanical systems
  • Ensure all equipment and systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, elevators, etc.) are operating efficiently and in compliance with local regulations and brand standards
  • Monitor preventive maintenance schedules and work orders to ensure timely execution
  • Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns or service disruptions, ensuring minimal impact on hotel operations

Team Supervision & Development

  • Assist in managing and scheduling the engineering team; provide ongoing training and support to ensure high performance
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure tasks are completed to standard and safety guidelines are followed
  • Maintain a positive and productive working environment, promoting teamwork and accountability

Project & Asset Management

  • Support implementation of capital projects, refurbishments, and technical upgrades
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and external service providers to ensure quality and timeliness of outsourced work
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment, maintenance logs, and inventory

Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

  • Support the hotel’s fire, life, and safety systems; ensure regular checks and drills are conducted
  • Enforce safety protocols and conduct risk assessments to minimize hazards
  • Promote energy conservation and sustainability practices in line with Accor and Fairmont standards

Other Duties

  • Act as the Engineering lead in the absence of the Director of Engineering
  • Participate in regular departmental meetings, inspections, and operational planning
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Engineering

Qualifications

Knowledge and Experience

  • Diploma or degree in Engineering or a related technical field
  • At least 5 years of experience in hotel engineering, with 2 year in a supervisory or assistant leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of hotel systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, etc.)
  • Proven leadership, problem-solving, and team coordination skills
  • Familiarity with sustainability practices and preventive maintenance planning
  • Good communication skills in both English and Vietnamese preferred
