Job Description

Assisting the Director of Engineering in administering the Engineering department; ensuring that all hotel equipment is properly serviced and functional, the hotel grounds and facilities are maintained, and training is provided for each department as to the proper operation and maintenance of departmental equipment.  The hotel will be maintained to meet codes of local enforcement agencies. Responsible for the hotel’s fire plan and building evacuation along with all fire and safety systems.

Salary: $110,000.00 to $125,000.00 annually, depending on experience

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for monitoring, updating and implementing the Fire Plan, Fire safety, building evacuation,  and Disaster Recovery plan
  • Responsible for the coordination of the preventive maintenance program for guest rooms, public areas and safety systems; working closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, Security and F&B departments
  • Responsible for helping prepare and manage the annual Engineering budget and assisting in the preparation of the Capital Expenditures for the hotel annually
  • Responsible for the Energy management system and monitoring utility costs
  • Responsible for supervising and directing the Engineering staff in operation and maintenance of hotel equipment
  • Responsible for ensuring prompt and immediate response to maintenance requests for the guests, staff and management of the hotel
  • Responsible for recruiting, scheduling, payroll, performance appraisals and reviews, and training and development of all Engineering staff
  • Responsible for all department health, safety and WHMIS training programs and through WCB compliance and key member of the Hotels Emergency Response Team
  • Responsible to ensure that the hotel is in compliance with all municipal, provincial and federal regulations as it relates to the operational functions and fire and safety programs
  • Responsible for the contractors and trades that are carrying out maintenance work on the hotels physical plant and equipment
  • Responsible for renovations of the hotel properties which may include getting prices for budgets, preparing a Scope of Work and acting as Project Manager
  • Required to be available by pager or phone for emergency response purposes

Qualifications

  • Minimum three  (3) years experience as a Assistant Director of Engineering in a similar sized hotel or a similar position in a large unionized heritage building
  • Engineering degree/diploma and or valid trade qualification required
  • Knowledgeable in all Regulations such as Building Codes, Fire & Health Dept, WHMIS
  • Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be highly skilled in reading and working with blueprints
  • Highly organized, result driven with the ability to be flexible, work well under pressure and a strong level of initiative required
  • Must be computer literate and familiar with Computerized Building Automation Programs, Maintenance Software, Auto CAD, and the Office Workplace package
  • Must lead by example by displaying a high standard of performance with ability to communicate these expectations to the team to achieve preeminent results
  • Must be highly safety conscious and actively involved in maintaining a safe working environment throughout the hotel
