Meet Mathieu Le Besq, General Manager at Novotel Yen Bai in #Vietnam.

From starting his journey as an apprentice in France at just 15, to leading hotels across five countries, Mathieu’s 26-year career with Accor is a powerful story of curiosity, courage, and commitment. What began with dreams of becoming a chef evolved after a life-changing travel experience in Kenya, where he discovered the true spirit and global possibilities of hospitality.

Along the way, working across 17 hotels, Mathieu learned that the heart of hospitality is people. For him, leadership is about leading by example, building trust, and creating an environment where Heartists can grow, learn, and take ownership of their path. “When you genuinely take care of your teams, they will naturally take great care of your guests.”

"After finishing my studies, having another internship in hospitality and beginning a new season at the camp, I started at ibis Douai Centre. Over 11 months, I was able to develop my skills in reception and to develop my versatility, which is an essential quality in hospitality and on reception – especially at an ibis, where teams are small and there are many tasks. The role also developed my team spirit, which reflects on the service we offer clients,” shares @Charles Danquigny.

At Accor, we believe that “Hospitality is a work of heart.” From a campsite internship to leading two hotel reception teams – Charles's journey at Accor is a testament to finding purpose in the unexpected. It all started during a summer placement at the reception when the director resigned mid-season and complaints flooded in. That's when Charles discovered his calling at the front desk, learning to stay calm under pressure, turn frustration into satisfaction and find meaning in every challenge.

“Then I took a bachelor’s degree in Tourism Establishment Management, while working for a year as executive assistant at the ibis budget and ibis Styles Strasbourg Centre République. We were completing the opening of the ibis Styles Strasbourg Centre, and I was able to get involved in all that entailed, from establishing internal processes to creating teams; it was a real challenge for me to balance the opening while at the same time ensuring smooth operations and maintaining service quality at the ibis budget. This allowed me to be recognised for my strengths, and I was promoted to head of reception for both hotels; it was a great vote of confidence," adds Charles.
