Hotel Accountant

Situated in the heart of the Brisbane CBD, with views out over the river to Southbank, the ibis Styles Brisbane is a modern, stylish hotel catering for both business and leisure guests. With 367 rooms, ibis Styles Brisbane is one of the largest hotels in Brisbane City. We are a bright, colourful and stylish hotel, with a vibrant and diverse culture of Heartists who work here with us.

We are looking for our next Full-time Hotel Accountant to join the ibis Styles Brisbane Elizabeth Street team.

Due to an internal promotion this rare role has come up and reports directly to the Financial Controller. It is supported by a Senior Finance Officer. Given our unique hotel composition, this role is not your typical Hotel Accountant role and is heavily operationally involved!  

Main responsibilities include:

• Manage day-to-day accounting activities across the hotel.
• Process and oversee accounts payable.
• Manage the hotel's fortnightly payroll and chair payroll meetings.
• Complete bank, balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations.
• Prepare daily and monthly financial reports and information.
• Monitor outstanding accounts and support credit control processes.
• Prepare and post month-end journals and assist with month-end close and reporting requirements.
• Assist the Financial Controller with budget preparation and audit requests.
• Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
• Partner with Department Managers to identify opportunities to improve departmental and hotel profitability.
• Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes and efficiencies.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, Accor policies and internal controls.

We're looking for someone who brings:

• Qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• Previous experience in an accounting or finance role.
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
• A solid understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.
• Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with financial systems.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships across the hotel.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• A proactive attitude and genuine interest in developing a career in finance.
• Previous hotel or hospitality finance experience (preferred).
• Experience with Opera Cloud, Zambion, PurchasePlus, Micros Symphony or SunSystems Cloud (preferred).
