Job Description

Reporting to Director of Rooms, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following: 

 

  • Ensure effective control of linen (receiving, recording and storage)
  • Review and update Departmental Performance Plan on a regular basis
  • Ensure through effective supervision that all services offered in the Housekeeping department are always available and are carried out with the outmost efficiency and courtesy as per the department operations manual
  • Liaise with laundry and technical services departments to ensure the smooth flow of linen supplies and repair work
  • Liaise with the Front Office on anticipated Guest check-ins, checkouts, room assignments and rooming list
  • Conduct periodic inspections of all hotel areas to check the cleaning standards
  • Ensure the proper ordering of cleaning supplies and Guest supplies and to check that they are handled and stored correctly
  • Make recommendation to management for modernization of equipment and refurbishment programs
  • Ensure that all rooms are checked prior to the arrival of the Guest for 100% readiness
  • Ensure that all safety rules, emergency procedures and fire prevention regulations are strictly enforced by the Colleagues
  • Ensure proper arrangement and maintenance of flowers and plants in the Guest rooms and public areas
  • Conduct regular housekeeping meetings to keep Colleagues informed of policies and procedures, special events, further improvement plans and guest comments
  • Preparation of the department’s budget
  • Ensure that the department’s operational budget is in line and costs are strictly controlled
  • Ensure manning and competence level of selected Colleagues is sufficient for the department to meet the needs of the organization and customer
  • Ensure that all Colleagues report for duty punctually wearing the correct uniform and name badge at all times
  • Ensure Colleague evaluations are conducted for all housekeeping Colleagues to review their general performance, discuss existing performance and areas of improvements by conducting probationary, bi-monthly and yearly appraisals
  • Monitor monthly JD Power results
  • Ensure that all Colleagues have a complete understanding of and adhere to the hotel’s policy and procedures
  • Provide constant coaching, counseling and discipline to Colleagues to ensure their capability to meet the needs of the customer and the organization
  • Update SOPs My Workbook when needed
  • Control department forms and records according to the Fairmont standards for Document Control
  • Liaise with the Food and Beverage Outlet Managers for any special requirements
  • Perform other duties and task as required for smooth operation of departments
  • Ensure measurable quality objectives are established and actively participate in the review of these objectives
  • Ensure the availability of resources to carry out all tasks
  • Ensure proper control of the keys allocated to the Housekeeping department
  • Ensure proper handling and control of lost and found
  • Ensure proper requisitioning and controlling of supplies

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of luxury hotels experience
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills
  • Diploma in Hotel management an asset
  • Previous International experience essential
  • Guest focused with a passion for service and standards excellence
  • Must be strong team player with proven leadership, development and delegation skills
  • Knowledge of Opera, Word, Excel, and Windows XP
  • Highly organized, career and result oriented with the ability to be flexible with hours, days off, assignment and additional duties
  • Must be able to work well under pressure in a fast paced and constantly changing environment
