Job Description

Job Title: Director of Engineering     

Department: Engineering                                 

Inspired and Supported by: General Manager/ Hotel Manager

 

Your purpose will be:

The Director of Engineering oversees the operational efficiency and asset protection of our prestigious hotel property, encompassing preventative equipment maintenance, grounds preservation, and structural integrity. Leading by example, this role fosters a culture of excellence grounded in respect, integrity, and accountability. Through strategic oversight and proactive measures, the Director ensures optimal functionality while championing sustainability initiatives. Collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders, they uphold the highest standards of professionalism, driving continuous innovation and advancement in engineering practices. You will be accountable for:

Engineering Management:

  • Advise senior management on engineering support, environmental controls, and property operational efficiency.
  • Manage maintenance budgets, capital works programs, and engineering plans, ensuring regular monitoring and review.
  • Oversee cost control aspects of maintenance, including budget preparation and implementation.

Capital Planning and Projects:

  • Develop and manage realistic capital budgets and cash flows for projects.
  • Take control of capital project planning and allocation of funding in alignment with company directives.
  • Administer a five-year capital plan, updating it annually against funding allocations.

Energy Management and Compliance:

  • Implement energy management programs and ensure adherence to Accor standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate energy usage, upgrading conservation systems as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, fire codes, and building ordinances.

Team Development and Quality Control:

  • Select, train, and develop a skilled maintenance team.
  • Conduct regular work sampling studies to evaluate personnel performance.
  • Maintain physical assets through effective operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems.

Talent and Culture Responsibilities:

  • Plan for future staffing needs and recruit in line with company guidelines.
  • Develop and implement training programs to meet engineering staff needs.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and maintain employee records.

Financial Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and analyse the Engineering POMEC budget, ensuring performance against budget.
  • Contribute to the hotel’s strategic and capital expenditure plans.

Occupational Health and Safety:

  • Demonstrate awareness of health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Take action to correct hazardous situations and investigate security incidents and accidents.

Qualifications

What you will need to do in this role?

  • Minimum 15 years experiences in engineering and 5 years as Chief Engineer or Director of Engineering working for luxury 5 star hotels
  • Academically and technically qualified
  • Good planner and project manager and outstanding in logistics
  • Manage a large team of engineering and maintenance personnel
  • Proficient in managing multicultural task forces
  • Technically proficient and implementing preventive maintenance programs
  • Handling all safety procedures and facility support services
  • Excellent communicator and ability to report to senior leadership
  • Superb organizational skills
  • Financially astute
  • Ability to manage large facilities spread across large area
  • Proactive, pleasant personality, great team player
  • Exceptional administration and communication skills
