Job Description

Sofitel New York is looking for a Director of Engineering who is an enthusiastic, hospitality-oriented professional that will be responsible for all administrative, financial and operating aspects of the hotel as they directly relate to the engineering division. Establish and support a high level of cooperation and teamwork in all areas of Engineering and among other departments.

  The Director of Engineering is responsible for ensuring that all hotel equipment is properly serviced and functional, that the hotel grounds and facilities are maintained, and that training is provided for each department as to the proper operation and maintenance of departmental equipment.  The hotel must be maintained to meet codes of local enforcement agencies.

  • Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
  • Must be effective at handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
  • Must have the ability to assimilate complex information, data, etc. from disparate sources and consider, adjust, or modify to meet the constraints of a particular need.
  • Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions.
  • Maintain regular staff attendance in compliance as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
  • Supervise and train all Engineering staff; oversee projects
  • Coordinate all Engineering staff scheduling
  • Create and adhere to annual budget for department
  • Develop and implement plans to keep property, equipment, and grounds in an acceptable state of repair
  • Create and implement preventive maintenance program for all hotel equipment.
  • Coordinate periodic inspection of all safety systems.

Salary Range: $140k - $160k / year


Qualifications

Your experience and skills include:

Candidate must possess at least 5 years of progressive facilities management experience in a hotel or a related field; or a 2 year college degree and 3 or more years of related experience; or a 4 year college degree and one or more years of related experience.  Stationary Engineer's license if required by local code.  HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations and general maintenance skills required.  Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and computer skills. Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule to meet business demands. Assist with additional projects or requests as needed.  Experience in interacting with corporate experts as well as ownership-supported asset managers is highly preferred.   Previous experience in managing Engineers, Mechanics and Painters required, and experience managing within a union environment is highly preferred.  Stationary Engineer’s license and/or other trade license(s) as required by local regulations and in current status.
