Job Description

Hyde Melbourne Place is looking for a Chief Engineer to lead facilities and maintenance across the hotel. You’re the backbone of our building – ensuring that everything behind the scenes runs like clockwork. From technical systems to preventive maintenance, from energy efficiency to team leadership, you keep the hotel operating at its best. Your work allows our teams to deliver seamless service and our guests to enjoy a safe, comfortable, and memorable stay.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of all engineering systems – HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical;
  • Lead, schedule, and support the engineering team, ensuring effective coverage and high standards of work;
  • Manage and implement preventive maintenance programs for equipment, guest rooms, and public areas;
  • Respond quickly to maintenance requests or emergencies, minimising disruption to operations and guests;
  • Collaborate with department heads to support operational needs and ensure seamless service delivery;
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards, as well as legal and brand requirements;
  • Manage contractors, service providers, and external inspections, ensuring quality and timely work;
  • Monitor and optimise energy use, utilities, and maintenance budgets;
  • Keep detailed maintenance records and assist with capital planning and project implementation;
  • Train your team on safety, emergency procedures, and best practices.

Qualifications

ABOUT YOU

  • Proven experience as a Chief Engineer or similar role within hotels, resorts, or commercial buildings;
  • Strong knowledge of building services, plant equipment, and compliance requirements;
  • Hands-on leadership style with excellent problem-solving skills;
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities;
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and on-call as required;
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
