Job Description

Job Title: Canoe Paddler | Seasonal

Hourly Rate: $25.11

Share your passion for culture with our guests and be their trusted guide as they visit the island we call home. As a Canoe Paddler, you will take our guests on a cultural journey, provide a different view of the island and help create memorable experiences.

What you will be doing:

  • Assist trained paddler in taking up to four guests in a Hawaiian Outrigger canoe, paddling for approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour at a time
  • Be knowledgeable of Hawaiian culture and perform chant ceremony, both before and after canoe experience
  • Assist in maintaining and cleaning all pertinent equipment, i.e. paddles, canoe, etc.
  • Inform registered guests about safety flags, ocean conditions and safety precautions
  • Enforces all beach safety rules seeking assistance from Supervisor or Security if required
  • Refers Guests to Activity agents or Concierge for additional needs or requests
  • Maintain atmosphere of aloha spirit by providing engaging, personalized, timely, and efficient service to our discerning guests
  • Share the true spirit of aloha with our guests by connecting them with the rich history of Hawaiʻi's culture, people, and traditions

    Qualifications

    Your experience and skills include:

    • Previous experience in paddling and swimming is required
    • Must be able to withstand very warm and sunny conditions
    • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the English language
    • Must be knowledgeable in Hawaiian Culture and language
    • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process

    Your working environment:

    • Must be able to lift and carry 150 lbs.
    • Must be able to push and pull 150 lbs.
    • Occasional standing, walking and reaching
    • Occasional lifting/carrying, pushing and pulling
    • Occasional crouching, bending, stooping, and kneeling

    Licenses or Certificates          

    • CPR/First Aid and Water Safety certification is required

    All Candidates must be in possession of identification proving authorization to work in the United States as defined in the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA).
