Job Description

Job Title: Back of House Supervisor  

Department: Back of House  

Inspired and Supported by: Back of House Manager  

 

Your purpose will be: To supervise, coordinate and participate in activities of stewards engaged in stewarding activities in all areas of the hotel. 

 

You will be accountable for: 

  • Ensuring that standards are, maintained and all documentation pertaining to the standards are utilized in the shift. 

  • Following hygiene and cleaning plan that ensures all areas are cleaned on a day-to-day basis as required.  

  • To be fully aware and comply with all statutory requirements on health and safety and all aspects of the hotel’s Health and Safety Policy 

  • Ensuring proper care for all furniture and fixtures within the back of house. 

 

Your key responsibilities & contribution will be: 

  • Review all group resumes and BEO’s in order to ensure the successful completion of all BOH responsibilities as outlined in the resumes or BEO’s. 

  • To ensure the proper organization of all equipment. Ensure proper station set up to ensure a smooth operation of the kitchen and maintain it threw his shift 

  • To identify the training requirements, organise and follow through the on the job training for the department,  

  • Participate in dishwashing, garbage removal, silver polishing, pot washing or any other stewarding area as necessary in accordance with department needs (based on staffing or business levels) 

  • To constantly monitor and check the personal hygiene and appearance of all staff at all times as well as ensuring that staff are trained to be respectful and disciplined towards colleagues, the hotel, equipment and materials.   

  • To instigate and maintain high morale, motivation of team members through leadership, and that teamwork and loyalty develop within the hotel 

  • To ensure the hotel’s grievance and disciplinary procedures are followed precisely 

  • To coordinate and ensure that all the china, silver, glass and flatware is set up for all the Food and Beverage outlets and events department 

  • To ensure the timely removal and cleaning of operating equipment from the various areas.   

  • To maintain communication between BOH and all supporting departments 

  • To assure that the shift hand over to the next shift is done according to the Leader’s checklist pertaining to each shift 


Qualifications

What you will need to do in this role? 

Essential: 

  • 3-4 years’ experience in back of house position in the Hospitality Industry 

  • Passion for and understanding of 5 star hospitality and what it takes to deliver it 

  • Empathetic with good communication skills and gravitas to take control when needed 

  • Quick thinking, resourceful and able to solve problems ’in the moment’ 

  • Able to work well under pressure in a fast paced and changing environment 

  • Able to work positively and collaboratively as part of a team 

  • Willing to work in rotating shifts including weekends and public holidays 

  • Good knowledge of  spoken and written English 

  • Basic computer skills and industry related reporting software 

Desirable: 

  • Industry related certifications
