Assistant Maintenance Manager

Novotel Queenstown Lakeside is looking for an experienced and hands-on Assistant Maintenance Manager to support our Engineering and Maintenance function.

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you’ll help keep our 273-room lakefront hotel safe, comfortable and running smoothly through preventative maintenance, repairs, contractor management, team supervision and compliance.

Nestled in the heart of Queenstown on the lakefront, Novotel is the town’s largest hotel. We’re looking for an Assistant Maintenance Manager to be the backbone of our busy property—bringing strong technical expertise, leadership and a genuine hospitality spirit to a fast-paced environment where your impact will be felt everywhere.

What You Will Do

• Assist with the day-to-day management of hotel maintenance across guest rooms, public areas, kitchens, grounds, equipment and staff facilities.

• Carry out and coordinate preventative maintenance, repairs and general building maintenance, including carpentry, plumbing, painting and electrical testing within your competency.

• Respond to maintenance requests, prioritise work and ensure repairs are completed safely, accurately and within required timeframes.

• Assist with maintenance projects, CAPEX works and the coordination and supervision of contractors and suppliers.

• Support emergency maintenance requirements, including power, fire systems, mechanical and plumbing issues.

• Assist with leading, training, scheduling and supporting the Engineering team, promoting safe and effective work practices.

• Maintain accurate maintenance records, job sheets, work orders and compliance documentation.

• Assist with departmental budgets, purchasing, supplier management and cost control.

• Support compliance with workplace health and safety, fire safety, environmental and other relevant requirements.

• Maintain hotel grounds, gardens, workshop and equipment to a safe and presentable standard.

• Identify opportunities to improve maintenance systems, efficiency and service delivery.

• Work collaboratively with all hotel departments to support guest comfort and the smooth operation of the hotel.

What we're looking for

• Minimum 3 years' relevant experience in hotel maintenance, facilities, building maintenance or a related environment.

• Experience supervising maintenance staff, contractors or an engineering/maintenance team.

• Strong practical knowledge of general building maintenance, including plumbing, carpentry, painting and basic electrical testing.

• Experience coordinating preventative maintenance, repairs, projects and contractors.

• Understanding of workplace health and safety and relevant compliance requirements.

• Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise and work independently.

• Experience with maintenance records, purchasing and budget control, with good computer skills.

• A relevant trade, facilities or maintenance qualification is advantageous.

• A hands-on approach and flexibility to work weekends, public holidays and respond to emergency maintenance requirements when required.

• Salary expectation $80,000 - $85,000 NZD per annum
