Job Description

  • 30 hours per week guaranteed
  • $30.19 per hour
     

Nestled above the stunning Lake Wakatipu, Mercure Queenstown Resort is looking for a motivated and reliable Maintenance Handyperson to join our Engineering team. About the Role

As our Maintenance Handyperson, you will support the Chief Engineer with the upkeep of the hotel’s building, plant, equipment, fixtures and fittings. You will play a key role in ensuring our guests enjoy a safe, comfortable and well-maintained environment throughout their stay.

This is a practical, fast-paced role that involves both preventative and reactive maintenance, daily plant checks, and close collaboration with other hotel departments to bring out-of-order rooms and spaces back online as quickly as possible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with day-to-day maintenance operations across the hotel.
  • Complete daily plant rounds, identifying and reporting any faults.
  • Carry out maintenance on equipment and water reticulation systems.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are used, maintained and stored safely.
  • Record all maintenance tasks, repairs and follow-up actions in the BMS.
  • Prioritise jobs to meet deadlines and respond to urgent requests.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organised workshop.
  • Communicate effectively with Housekeeping, Front Office and other departments.

Qualifications

About You

  • At least 12 months’ experience in general building maintenance
  • Experience in a hotel, resort or hospitality setting is advantageous
  • Ability to operate a range of equipment and small hand tools
  • Basic computer skills
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Physically fit and comfortable with manual tasks (lifting, climbing ladders, kneeling, etc.)
  • A proactive, service-oriented attitude with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and show initiative
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts
  • A commitment to safety, teamwork and continuous improvement
  • A trade qualification is beneficial but not required
