Job Description

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, enhance and implement Fairmont’s Service Culture and standards
  • acts as a role model for exceptional performance.
  • Provides direction and guidance to the Event Supervisors assisting in the development of their leadership skills. This includes decision making skills, anticipation, performance management, forward planning, process mapping, analysis, sense of urgency and ownership.
  • Pro-actively analyzes procedures, policies, systems and processes of operation and streamlines where necessary.
  • Ensures the financial success of the department by monitoring labour productivity, scheduling, revenue generation, forecasting and cost control.
  • Ensures all financial reporting is maintained and accurate (billing, payroll, etc.)
  • Foster relationships with Conference Services, Culinary, Stewarding and other Departments to ensure that a common vision is shared and our customer's expectations are exceeded. 
  • Ensure that all equipment, fixtures, and furniture of the department are kept in good supply and in the best shape possible.
  • Actively ensure departmental adoption of a safety culture by developing and monitoring the process of Health & Safety standards.
  • Maintains a high level of knowledge towards the latest food, beer, wine and cocktail trends.
  • Ensure departmental participation in all hotel-wide environmental initiatives, and to develop departmental specific environmental initiatives.
  • Achieve or exceed all targeted objectives as it relates to our pillars
  • Develop strong interpersonal relationships with our Regular Meeting Planners and visiting Planners/Conveners.
  • Actively involved in recruiting/interviewing, training and mentoring new colleagues.
  • Creates learning and development opportunities for colleagues that support operational excellence and exceptional guest service.
  • Responsible for attending, leadership meetings, daily BEO meetings, pre-convention, guest satisfaction focus and other meetings as required.
  • Align and deliver corporate F&B vision. In addition, work with clients, colleagues, to create new unique and personalized experiences for all local and conference guests.
  • Recognizes and celebrates the successes of individuals and the team as a whole.
  • Supports colleague empowerment to make their own decisions within defined parameters; encouraging independent decision thinking and ownership of work.
  • Demonstrates a high involvement in the operation, on the floor, in order to initiate ideas, respond to concerns and maximize team success.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • At least 3-4 years of progressive management experience in Event Operations, Catering, Food & Beverage or Convention Services in a hotel or related field required.
  • Prior experience in scheduling and payroll for large teams.
  • Post secondary degree or diploma in hospitality or a related discipline.
  • Proven leadership and management skills.
  • Proven ability to multitask in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Self-motivated, well organized and a strong team player.
  • Proven ability to recognize and correct guest service issues through an established presence on the event floor.
  • Experience managing a budget with a proven ability to manage labour productivity effectively.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Sales & Catering Opera, & Silverware (POS)
  • Completion of Level 1 or 2 First Aid course is an asset.
