Job Description

Job Summary:

The Assistant Housekeeping Manager is responsible for Housekeeping in the foundation of hotel operations and can make the difference between a reputable hotel and one that guests are likely to visit again. The housekeeping department ensures the cleanliness and orderliness of hotel rooms and that they are properly stocked with the supplies to which guests are entitled. The Assistant Housekeeping Manager not only supervises housekeepers in performing their duties but also investigates any guest complaints and takes corrective action.

Duties:

  • Directs housekeeping work crew and implements proper work procedures.
  • Manages records for Lost and Found in receiving, returning, logging and mailing items.
  • Inputs daily payroll data.
  • Conducts daily guest room inspections.
  • Conducts daily inspections of all public areas and restrooms.
  • Assists the Executive Housekeeper with all departmental training programs (organizing, developing, implementing and administering.
  • Monitors safety programs by insuring MSDS standards are maintained and also the training/proper usage of chemicals.
  • Corrects, counsels, and disciplines subordinates with the guidance/assistance of the Executive Housekeeper.
  • Supervises swimming pool operations in water clarity testing and ensuring that state laws are met and maintained.
  • Supervises heavy-duty cleaning functions, i.e., carpet cleaning extraction, general cleaning, etc.
  • Prepares weekly work schedules for Housekeepers, Housekeeper I, General Cleaners, Housekeeper II, and the Seamstress.
  • Monitors inventory of operating and cleaning supplies and places orders as necessary
  • Ensure that all Occupational Health and Safety requirements for the company are met within your department. Report any workplace hazards as you see them and support the company in its endeavor to provide a safe workplace.
  • Represent the company in a positive manner expounding the values, ethics and pride at all times.
  • Complete to the best of your ability any additional tasks within reason as provided by your immediate manager or their delegate.
  • Assists the Assistant Executive Housekeeper and Executive Housekeeper in preparation of Capital additions/replacements and the Operational Budget.
  • Supervises the guest laundry shop.
  • Coordinates monthly linen inventory.
  • Tests and recommends new items for housekeeping, i.e., chemicals, supplies, equipment, etc.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of housekeeping supervisory experience in a large hotel or equivalent
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good interpersonal relationship skills
  • Proven leadership skills, sound judgment and the ability to work will with a diverse staff

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Travel Industry Management or equivalent
  • Experience with budget preparations, payroll, forecasting occupancy and scheduling 
  • Prior experience in a union environment

Additional Information

Salary:

$62,500 – $69,000 annually

Salary offer is based on a number of factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience. Our company offers a competitive benefits package on top of base.
