Job Description

The Assistant Chief Engineer in a hotel plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective maintenance and safety of the hotel's assets.

Their responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing daily engineering operations to maintain safety and functionality.
  • Managing the Engineering & Maintenance team to uphold guest satisfaction.
  • Leading preventive and corrective maintenance activities for guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities.
  • Championing the hotel's fire safety program and ensuring compliance with local regulations.
  • Coordinating technical and safety training sessions and enforcing safe work practices.
  • Implementing energy and resource conservation initiatives to support sustainability goals.
  • Overseeing troubleshooting and maintenance for mechanical, electrical, and building systems.
  • These roles are essential for maintaining the quality of service and safety standards in hotels, ensuring guest satisfaction and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

To become an Assistant Chief Engineer in a hotel, the following qualifications are typically required:

  • Education: A minimum of a Junior College graduate diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: At least 6 years of experience in hotel or building services, or 5 years in a Duty Engineer position. 
  • Skills: Proficiency in various engineering fields, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and mechanical systems. 
  • Knowledge: Specialized knowledge on water treatment, hydraulics, mechanics, and energy conservation. 
  • Training: Ability to train engineering team members and ensure compliance with safety regulations. 
  • These qualifications ensure that the Assistant Chief Engineer can effectively manage hotel maintenance and ensure guest satisfaction.
