We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Chief Engineer to join our leadership team.

In this critical role, you will take ownership of the hotel’s engineering and maintenance function, ensuring the safety, compliance, and optimal performance of all building systems and infrastructure. As a key leader, you will drive asset management strategies, oversee capital projects, and support operational excellence across the hotel.

Job Description

Reporting to the General Manager, you responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and manage the engineering and maintenance function across the hotel
  • Oversee all building systems including HVAC, electrical, fire life safety, hydraulic, and lift systems
  • Plan and deliver preventative and reactive maintenance programs to ensure optimal asset performance
  • Ensure full compliance with statutory requirements, safety regulations, and brand standards
  • Manage contractors and service providers, ensuring performance, compliance, and cost control
  • Maintain accurate contractor records, including SWMS, permits, and insurances
  • Lead emergency response and business continuity procedures relating to engineering systems
  • Prepare and manage CAPEX budgets and projects, including planning, execution, and delivery
  • Monitor energy usage and implement sustainability and efficiency initiatives
  • Conduct regular audits and reporting to ensure operational and compliance standards are met
  • Identify and implement initiatives to improve efficiency and asset lifecycle management

Qualifications

  • Proven experience (minimum 2 years) as a Chief Engineer, Facilities Manager, or similar role within a hotel or large complex building
  • Strong knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, fire safety, and hydraulic systems
  • Trade qualification or relevant engineering degree (highly regarded)
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated experience managing contractors, budgets, and capital projects
  • A proactive, solutions-focused leader with strong problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to respond to emergency maintenance requirements outside normal hours when required
