Job Description

Sofitel New York is looking for an Engineering Manager who is an enthusiastic, hospitality-oriented professional that will be responsible for all administrative aspects of the department, as well as assisting the financial and operating aspects of the hotel as they directly relate to the engineering division. Establish and support a high level of cooperation and teamwork in all areas of Engineering and among other departments.

What you will be doing:

Assisting the Director of Engineering in administering the Engineering department ensuring that all equipment and machinery in running properly all guest rooms and public space in good condition while ensuring the budget and payroll are monitored. The Engineering Manager is responsible for the hotels fire plan and building evacuation along with all fire and safety systems.

  • Responsible for the monitoring, updating and implementing the Fire Plan, Fire safety, building evacuation, Disaster Recovery plan.
  • Responsible for the  coordination of the preventive maintenance program for guest rooms, public areas and safety systems, working closely with Front Desk, Security and F&B departments.
  • Responsible for helping prepare and controlling the annual Engineering budget and assisting in the preparation of the Capital.
  • Responsible for the Energy management system and monitoring the utility costs.
  • Responsible for supervising and direction of the Engineering staff in operation and maintenance of the mechanical and physical.
  • Responsible for all ensuring prompt and immediate response to maintenance requests for the quests, staff and management of the hotel.
  • Responsible for recruiting, scheduling, payroll, union labor relations, training and development of all Engineering.
  • Responsible for all department health, safety and WHMIS training programs and through WCB compliance and key member of the Hotels Emergency Response Team.
  • Responsible to ensure that the hotel is in compliance with all municipal, provincial and federal regulations as it relates to the operational functions, fire and safety programs.
  • Responsible for communicating with the contractors and trades that are carrying out maintenance work on the hotels physical plant and equipment.
  • Responsible for assisting administratively with renovations, which may include getting prices for budgets, preparing a Scope of Work and acting as Project Manager both for the Engineering department as well as Housekeeping and Front Office and as is needed. Role will be asked to perform administrative duties to assist other departments on an as needed basis.

Qualifications

  • Candidate must possess at least 3 years of progressive facilities management experience in a hotel or a related field; or a 2-year college degree and three or more years of related experience; or a 4-year college degree and one or more years of related experience.
  • Stationary Engineer's license if required by local code. 
  • HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations and general maintenance skills required. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and computer skills.
  • Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule to meet business demands.
  • Assist with additional projects or requests as needed. 
  • High school diploma required. 
  • Previous supervisory responsibility in a unionized work environment required. 
  • Stationary Engineer’s license and/or other trade license(s) as required by local regulations. 
  • Renovation and or hotel opening experience is strongly preferred.
