Job Description

As the Environmental Systems Manager, you will lead our sustainability initiatives, ensuring we meet all Accor and Fairmont environmental commitments while respecting the natural beauty that surrounds us. This role is perfect for a leader passionate about driving impactful change and maintaining our legacy as a responsible and forward-thinking hotel.

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, with a dotted line to the General Manager, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage the hotel’s No Net Negative Environmental Impact commitments, including comprehensive annual environmental data collection and reporting to Parks Canada.
  • Maintain hotel’s environmental compliance with all relevant National Park environmental legislation
  • Lead the implementation of Accor sustainability goals; advise the executive team and relevant department leaders on required actions and data
  • Collaborate with hotel Engineering team on energy, water and carbon reduction initiatives, including monthly data collection and reporting
  • Work with procurement team to improve hotel product sourcing and ensure compliance with single-use plastic and other ESG metrics
  • Support F&B team with food waste monitoring platforms and reduction programs
  • Lead hotel sustainability projects including but not limited to third-party certification, award applications, and ESG audits
  • Act as key the liaison between Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, corporate sustainability team, and the Regional Director of Sustainability.
  • Manage the hotel’s comprehensive waste and recycling programs and collaborating with local partners to increase waste diversion
  • Provide key messaging to Marketing, and Public Relations teams and support external communication regarding hotel environmental commitments
  • Lead the hotel’s cross-departmental strategic Sustainability Committee, engaging both colleagues and leadership to foster a culture of environmental responsibility
  • Facilitate cross-departmental education campaigns for all staff to raise awareness for National Park guidelines
  • Lead forward-thinking sustainability initiatives that position Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise as an industry leader in environmental stewardship
  • Training – conduct or develop sustainability onboarding training and materials to ensure all employees are aware of Accor and Fairmont’ sustainability commitments and the specific actions they can take in their roles.
  • Organize key communication and activation opportunities to amplify the hotel’s sustainability efforts and enhance sustainability education and engagement among guests and colleagues.
  • Develop and maintain pitch document(s) for the sales team to use in wining business from sustainability-focused clients and for T&C to use in the recruiting process.
  • Build partnerships with local organizations, suppliers, and community stakeholders to further advance sustainability efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of management experience, preferably in hotel operations or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Hospitality Management, Sustainability, Environmental Studies, or a related discipline.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills to engage employees, guests, and stakeholders.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and adapt to evolving priorities.
  • Proven ability to inspire and lead cross-functional teams toward achieving sustainability goals.
  • Passion for sustainability and a deep understanding of environmental best practices within the hospitality industry.
