Job Description

The Director of Leisure and Recreation reports to the Hotel Manager/ Executive Assistant Manager (Rooms & Recreation) and is responsible for leading the strategic direction and operational excellence of all leisure-driven areas including spa, beach, pools, wellness, golf, resort animation/entertainment and recreational offerings. This role plays a pivotal part in maximising TREVPAR (total Revenue per Available Room) by driving innovation, guest engagement, strategic partnership, and dynamic team leaderships. This role combines revenue management, sales strategy, and operational oversight to ensure Fairmont Southampton delivers world-class leisure experiences while exceeding financial performance targets.

What you will be doing:

Strategic Leadership & Business Development

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to grow growth initiatives across the full spectrum of leisure and recreation offerings, including spa, beach, pools, wellness, golf, entertainment, and recreational programs.
  • Forecast demand, optimize activity rates, and manage inventory for maximum revenue generation.
  • Align business objectives with property-wide goals to increase total revenue and profitability.
  • Lead marketing and branding initiatives to enhance visibility and capture new market segments.

Sales & Revenue Management

  • Analyze market trends and consumer behavior to identify opportunities for revenue optimization.
  • Oversee pricing strategy and performance metrics to ensure revenue targets are met or exceeded.
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, and revenue management teams on packages, promotions, and campaigns.
  • Cultivate strong client relationships and partnerships within the leisure, travel, and wellness sectors.

Operations Management

  • Oversee daily operations of all leisure and recreation facilities—including spa, beach, pools, fitness, wellness, golf, resort entertainment, and recreational activities—to ensure exceptional guest service and operational efficiency.
  • Drive innovation in program offerings including wellness packages, signature treatments, and fitness activities.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and hygiene standards across all leisure areas.
  • Implement cost control, staffing optimization, and inventory management procedures.

People Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary team of spa therapists, golf professionals, fitness instructors, and recreation staff.
  • Foster collaboration across departments to design holistic guest experiences.
  • Empower team members to make special happen by delivering personalized, memorable experiences -encouraging creativity, ownership, and service excellence that turns moments into unforgettable memories for our guests.

Guest Experience & Brand Standards

  • Champion personalized service and memorable guest experiences across all leisure offerings.
  • Handle high-touch guest feedback and complaints with professionalism and urgency.
  • Ensure service delivery aligns with the standards of Fairmont and Accor luxury brands.

Industry Engagement & Brand Representation

  • Represent Fairmont Southampton at industry events, trade shows, and conferences.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with tourism boards, luxury travel agencies, and key market influencers.

Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Hospitality, Marketing, or related field required

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in the leisure, recreation, or hospitality industry
  • At least 5 years in a senior leadership or director-level role overseeing multiple leisure business units (spa, golf, wellness, etc.)
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding revenue goals in a luxury hospitality environment

Skills & Competencies

  • Strategic thinker with deep understanding of revenue management principles and total resort revenue optimization (TREVPAR)
  • Strong leadership and people management skills; experienced in building high-performance teams
  • Advanced knowledge of customer relationship management (CRM) systems, sales analytics tools, and budget/forecasting software
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management abilities
  • Experience working in a multicultural setting; familiarity with diverse markets is an asset
  • Knowledge of the luxury travel market and wellness and leisure trends

Other Requirements

  • Ability to travel as needed for business development and industry events
  • High flexibility and availability to adapt to dynamic operational needs.
