Job Description

The Demi Chef plays a key role in our kitchen team, supporting the Chef de Partie and Sous Chef in food preparation and cooking. The Demi Chef will assist in maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, and presentation. 

 

Main Duties/Responsibilities:  

  • Take responsibility for ensuring the smooth operation of your section, working closely with the team to execute tasks effectively. 
  • Provide efficient, friendly, and professional service to all guests. 
  • Maintain high standards of food preparation, attention to detail, portion control, and ensure all plated meals meet high presentation standards. 
  • Assist in all areas of the kitchen for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and events. 
  • Check that all food is stored and handled in accordance with current food health and hygiene regulations. 
  • Keep work areas, equipment, and sections clean at all times, following health and hygiene regulations. 
  • Store all food items and equipment appropriately, in line with HACCP regulations. 
  • Monitor daily kitchen food and product requirements and inform the supervisor well in advance. 
  • Support the culinary leadership team in ensuring all employees understand and follow department policies and procedures. 
  • Assist the Executive Chef with menu preparation and ensure adequate supplies for service. 

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Demi Chef or in a similar role within a commercial kitchen environment.  
  • Trade qualified Chef  
  • Food safety certificate  
  • A passion for cooking and a keen interest in culinary arts.  
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle pressure.  
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.  
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends and public holidays.   
  • Must have valid Australian Working Rights.
