The Assistant Director of Engineer assists in the supervision of the team and the operation and maintenance of the building and engineering systems.  This role assists the Director of Engineer in any aspect of engineering to assure comfort of guests.  Responsible for carrying out all directions of the Director of Engineer.

• Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service-oriented manner.
• Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Fairmont Standards, as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
• Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include adhering to the proper dress code and wearing name tag while working.
• Comply at all times with Fairmont standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
• Inspect plant and equipment.  Staffs, plans, supplies and schedules. 
• Supervises maintenance and preventive maintenance of the plant and all hotel controlled buildings and equipment.
• Suggests and recommends possible projects to management for future capital budgets.  Assists Director of Engineer in supervising and coordinating contractors and hotel labor in performance of project work.
• Coordinates with other departments work necessary to maintain general conditions, safety and health standards set by hotel policy and law requirements.
• Directly supervises employees in operation of equipment and control of utilities to provide efficient operation of hotel services.
• Maintains own and hotel special permits and licenses as required by local authorities.  Inspects and maintains records for local authorities as required.
• Controls schedules, staffing, hiring and training of all department employees.
• Provides support and special services to Banquet Department and commercial tenants to the extent agreed by management.
• Works with purchasing agent to assure delivery, price, quantity and quality of supplies and equipment.
• Attends and participates in staff operation and safety meetings.
• Other duties as required.

Salaried Position with Range of 110K to 112K Annually

EDUCATION

• Mechanical school or equivalent.
• Vocational school desirable.
• Working knowledge of all machinery in a hotel, mechanical drawing, math and physics
• At least 5 years of progressive experience in a hotel or related field; or a 2 year college degree and 3 or more years of related experience; or a 4 year college degree and one or more years of related experience. 

REQUIREMENTS

• Long hours sometimes may be required. 
• Heavy work – Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
• Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly.
• Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
• Must work well in stressful, high pressure situations.
• Must maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.
• Must be effective at handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
• Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying the concerns and issues raised by coworkers and guests.

OTHER ABILITIES, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE                                                                          

• Stationary Engineer’s license or other trade license as required by local regulations. 
• Must have a valid driver’s license for the State of Massachusetts.

Salary Range 110K- 112K annually
