Job Description

At Sofitel Brisbane Central, we love, live and lead in luxury and we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional experiences to our guests. The Director of Talent and Culture works closely with the General Manager and the Executive Leadership team to set the tone for the hotel, by living and leading the Sofitel brand and executing a cohesive people strategy that focuses on coaching and development. This opportunity is perfect for an experienced human resources professional who is a well-rounded generalist and truly passionate about people and hospitality.

The key responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Lead and inspire a small, dedicated HR team to ensure seamless daily operations and exceptional service delivery.
  • Oversee all generalist HR functions, providing strategic support to the broader team while upholding the hotel’s distinguished standards of excellence.
  • Cultivate a culture of professional growth, meaningful connection, and a consistent focus on luxury hospitality.
  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures that align with the hotel’s vision, values, and industry best practices.
  • Drive end-to-end talent management, including recruitment, employee relations, performance development, and succession planning.
  • Design and facilitate bespoke training and learning initiatives that enhance team capability and guest experience.
  • Champion a safe, inclusive, and sustainable workplace through proactive leadership in Work Health & Safety, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and environmental responsibility.
  • Monitor and report on key HR metrics, translating insights into strategic actions that foster engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders and trusted external partners to support business goals and operational excellence.
  • Contribute to signature hotel projects that elevate the employee journey and enrich the guest experience.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related discipline; professional HR certification is highly regarded.
  • A minimum of five years’ HR experience, ideally within the luxury hospitality sector.
  • In-depth understanding of HR best practices, with strong knowledge of Australian employment legislation and regulatory frameworks.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities, with a polished and professional demeanor.
  • Proficient in HRIS platforms and related technologies, with a commitment to leveraging systems to enhance efficiency and service.
  • Proven ability to form trusted relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • A genuine passion for people and a commitment to delivering excellence in guest and employee experiences.
  • Strong attention to detail, focused on doing things accurately and to a high standard.
  • Able to solve problems and stay calm in busy, fast-paced situations.
  • Reliable and trustworthy when handling private or sensitive information.
