Job Description

We are seeking a talented and experienced Bakery Sous Chef to join our team in Cairo, Egypt. As the second-in-command of our bakery kitchen, you will play a crucial role in creating delicious baked goods, managing daily operations, and supporting the Head Chef in maintaining the highest standards of quality and creativity.

  • Assist the Head Chef in overseeing daily bakery operations and staff management
  • Develop and refine new recipes, incorporating both local and international baking traditions
  • Ensure consistent quality and presentation of all baked goods
  • Train and mentor junior bakers, fostering a collaborative and productive kitchen environment
  • Maintain strict adherence to food safety and sanitation standards
  • Manage inventory, place orders, and control costs
  • Collaborate with the pastry team to create special items for holidays and events
  • Step in for the Head Chef when necessary, assuming full kitchen responsibilities

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of professional baking experience, with a proven track record in a leadership role
  • Advanced knowledge of baking techniques, recipe development, and modification
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining various kitchen equipment
  • Strong understanding of food safety practices and current certification
  • Excellent inventory management and cost control skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team
  • Culinary degree or diploma in baking and pastry arts preferred
  • Knowledge of Middle Eastern baking traditions, as well as international pastry techniques
  • Experience in managing dietary restrictions and allergen concerns
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Creativity and passion for developing innovative baked goods
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to): 

  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs.
  • Occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting.
  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps.
