Job Description

We’re on the hunt for a creative, hands-on Sous Chef to bring flavour, flair, and leadership to our kitchen team. Working closely with our Executive Chef, you’ll help craft and deliver innovative menus that showcase the best seasonal produce, executed to perfection for both our restaurant.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Support the Head Chef in the smooth daily running of the kitchen.
  • Lead service, ensuring every dish leaves the pass to the highest standards of quality, flavour, and presentation.
  • Contribute to menu planning, seasonal updates, and creative specials that align with Mid Air’s culinary vision.
  • Train, mentor, and motivate the kitchen team, fostering a positive and professional environment.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels, ordering stock as required while controlling food and labour costs.
  • Uphold strict food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards at all times.
  • Coordinate with the front-of-house team to ensure seamless service and exceptional guest experiences.
  • Step in to manage kitchen operations in the Head Chef’s absence.
  • Monitor kitchen equipment for proper operation and arrange repairs when necessary.
  • Support the development and implementation of prep schedules and efficient workflows.
  • Assist in managing rostering and staffing levels to meet operational needs while maintaining labour efficiency.

Qualifications

What we’re looking for: 

  • Previous experience as a Sous Chef or strong Chef de Partie ready to step up.
  • Solid technical skills with a passion for creative, modern cuisine.
  • Proven ability to lead a team in a high-volume, high-quality environment.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • A positive, collaborative attitude with a love for delivering memorable guest experiences.
