Job Description

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
The Marketing Manager drives Marketing & Communications strategy for the Swissôtel Chicago, with the goal of enhancing the image of the hotel, ensuring quality media coverage, and maximizing revenue. Working closely with the Director of Sales & Marketing and Revenue at the hotel, this role builds strategic public relations plans, targeted campaigns, and social media content to drive consumer awareness and preference, while focusing on showcasing and supporting the hotel’s internal clients (Food and Beverage, Spa, Special Events, Sales, etc.) to local, regional, national and international media and consumers. The position will build partnerships with all related tourism divisions, as well as Accor brand teams. This role acts as the spokesperson for the hotel when internal partners are unavailable; provides crisis communications assistance; and ensures all public information is current and displayed correctly, including brand and property level web sites. Overall success will be measured by how effectively leveraged the resources around them are to create truly compelling marketing and communications campaigns as well as year-over-year growth in all key metrics – social media engagement, web site statistics, and campaign revenues.

Public Relations and Visual Asset Management

  • Develops a comprehensive PR plan per quarter, including group, leisure and local efforts, and executes post sign-off from the Director of Sales & Marketing
  • Develops, implements, and manages all brand programs and campaigns, in coordination with the Swissôtel corporate office in Paris and the PME office in Sao Paula; fully communicates all campaigns to the property operations teams; develops tracking and reports on the metrics, assessing success
  • Communicates with property Revenue team to develop need period calendar, creates campaigns for each, and analyzes the ROI and areas for improvement:
    • Audience Growth
    • Audience Profile
    • Audience engagement
    • Content reach
    • Leads
    • Response rate & quality
  • Maintains a comprehensive list of local, regional and national media contacts, with additional focus on area influencers/bloggers
  • Writes and distributes all press materials (press kits, press releases, advertorials) for property events, promotions, and outlets
  • Manages the execution of hotel media events and press promotional activities
  • Supports pull-through of impactful PR strategy & activities to drive quality press coverage through media engagement, in alignment with communications objectives
  • Manages PR and Social Media agencies as needed
  • Displays in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios
  • Oversees all aspects of reputation management with objective to convert fans into customers and advocates
  • Effectively communicates the brands’ community leadership and participation in a positive, authentic way to attract today’s modern, hyper-connected buyers
  • Evaluates new public relations opportunities and vets PR leads from the area partners
  • Verifies the news clippings and other online, print, and social media mention report is completed on a monthly basis for property distribution
  • Oversees the coordination of photography for F&B, special events, collateral and public relations purposes
  • Oversees the development of all printed material to supplement online products
  • Manages photo/video legal contracts for marketing and public relations projects
  • Manages photo shoots for seasonal or festive promotions in partnership with brand marketing team
  • Provides accurate, complete and effective communications to visiting journalists
  • Works with internal communications team to ensure that property is following all corporate public relations guidelines
  • Manages Crisis Communications Plan and participates in yearly round-table exercises
  • Helps develop and oversee the implementation of the hotel’s budget, as it relates to:
    • Media Advertising
    • Agency Fees
    • Public Relations
    • Collateral Material
    • Promotion
    • Photography

Building Successful Relationships

  • Builds and strengthens relationships with existing and new travel writers and local media to ensure future exposure Activities include calls, entertainment, FAM trips, trade shows, etc.
  • Develops relationships within community to strengthen and expand media opportunities for coverage
  • Assists property in developing promotions for various campaigns

Social Media Content Management

  • Assists with development and execution of monthly content calendar including promotion campaigns in F&B, weddings, spa, rooms and conferences through social media channels
  • Assists with facilitating social media engagement and developing reports to share with key stakeholders 
  • Engages in proactive online reputation management by surfacing relevant guest comments (positive or negative) in social media channels and responds accordingly

General

  • Partners with Director of Marketing to create plans aligned to hotel sales and revenue strategies
  • Provides training and public relations leadership and acts as a public relations subject matter expert for GM, Sales Leaders and Managers, and Revenue Leaders
  • Stays abreast of competition and its collateral, advertising, and marketing efforts while constantly evolving our digital, marketing and public relations trends

Qualifications

YOUR EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS INCLUDE:

  • 4-year bachelor's degree preferred; a minimum of 1-year experience in public relations is required, with additional experience in sales, marketing, digital or related professional area preferred; hospitality marketing and public relations or agency experience preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage group billing, large-scale invoicing, and client communication effectively.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Solution-oriented approach to resolving issues and ensuring client satisfaction.
