We are looking for an Ambassador for Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour as a Permanent Full Time - Junior Sous Chef

The ambassador should an eye for detail, a passion for creating magnifique luxury experience for our guests and developing a wonderful team. 

YOUR PURPOSE: You are a refined conductor whose visionary baton orchestrates the sumptuous symphony of the hotel’s culinary masterpiece

Location: 21 Viaduct Harbour Avenue, Auckland CBD

Hours per week: 40

Salary: $68,500 per annum


Job Description

Our Ambassador will be:

  • Hands-on supervision of daily restaurant operations and kitchen team.
  • Deliver consistent, high-quality, and value-for-money cuisine that meets or exceeds guest expectations.
  • Ensure high standards in food preparation, presentation, and hygiene at all times.
  • Support with innovative menu creation and manage stock levels for service readiness.
  • Lead by example to motivate and train staff, fostering a positive and development-focused team culture.
  • Maintain cost control through portion management, stock rotation, and waste minimisation.
  • Train new employees and apprentices on kitchen operations and menu items.
  • Collaborate closely with Restaurant Manager and Front of House team to meet service goals.
  • Monitor payroll costs and support recruitment alongside management.
  • Ensure team compliance with company policies, procedures, and food safety standards.
  • Coordinate stewarding team to support kitchen needs efficiently.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by management.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 24 months experience in a similar role, preferably including 5 star experience.
  • At least 1 year in a leadership role in a 5 star luxury hotel or similar
  • Holds a Diploma Certificate or higher in Cookery or International Diploma in Culinary Arts
  • An understanding of luxury guest expectations and desire to meet these expectations.
  • Attention to detail
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Office and Photoshop applications
  • Projects professional image at all times through personal presentation/ interpersonal skills.
  • Maintains awareness of industry trends in service, product and presentation.
  • Initiates contacts and establishes rapport easily.
  • Organises time and work efficiently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, English essential
  • Hours worked according to the demands of the business and as per employment agreement.
