Financial Controller for Novotel Newcastle Beach & Ibis Sydney Barangaroo

This HUB role would be looking after 2 properties, Novotel Newcastle Beach & Ibis Sydney Barangaroo where this role will be based. At Ibis it enjoys pride of place near the waterfront in Sydney's most desirable location of Barangaroo, the hotel features 91 compact rooms that have the essentials for a great visit to Sydney’s city. Located just minutes from the pulsating excitement of Darling Harbour and surrounded by lively restaurants, bars and cafes.

Novotel Newcastle Beach situated in the iconic East End of Newcastle, a short walk to Newcastle Beach and five minutes from the city. This hotel is the ideal choice for business or leisure travel with cafes, bars, restaurants, shopping, art galleries and coastal walks only moments away.


The Financial Controller will be responsible for working with each hotel to find positive outcomes and maximize margins. Reporting directly to the General Managers of each hotel, your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparation of budgets, financial and management reports
  • Benchmarking and innovatively finding new opportunities for growth and efficiencies in the business.
  • Responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the Finance Department, including, accounts Receivable/Payable, audit and payroll functions
  • Train & Developing a small Finance team including other departments
  • Ensure that all Departments and Senior Leaders adopt policies and internal controls maximising Departmental profit
  • Be directly accountable for the compilation of the annual budgets and monthly forecasting
  • Prepare and collate accurate and timely weekly, monthly and quarterly financial reports.  As well as payroll, profit and loss and revenue forecast reports
  • Involvement in BAS and other tax requirements



We are looking for somebody who is solutions oriented and able to successfully balance the needs of our guests and team, while managing the financial and compliance responsibilities of the hotel

  • Previous experience with SunSystems, Payroll Systems, Purchase Plus and Opera or PMS will be advantageous
  • Strong organisational skills, time management and attention to detail
  • Proven track record in creating efficiencies across financial processes, procedures, and strong internal controls
  • Previous Accounting and Finance experience at a mid-size hotel or resort property desirable
  • The proven ability to achieve deadlines and work well under pressure situations
  • Ability to apply strategic thought processes to achieve positive outcomes
  • Strong business partnering and communication capabilities to work across 2 hotels
