Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and efficient Commis I specializing in Tandoor Cuisine to join our culinary team Grand Mercure Mysore, India. As a Commis I, you will play a crucial role in supporting our kitchen operations, focusing on the preparation and cooking of authentic tandoor dishes.

  • Assist in the preparation of ingredients for tandoor dishes, including marinating meats and vegetables
  • Operate and maintain the tandoor oven, ensuring proper temperature control and cooking techniques
  • Prepare and cook various tandoor specialties, such as naan, kebabs, and tikkas
  • Collaborate with other kitchen staff to ensure timely and high-quality food production
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation, adhering to food safety and hygiene standards
  • Assist in inventory management and stock rotation of ingredients
  • Follow recipes and portion control guidelines to minimize waste and maintain consistency
  • Participate in kitchen cleaning and maintenance tasks as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; culinary school training preferred
  • Food handler's certification
  • Proficiency in tandoor cooking techniques and equipment
  • Knowledge of North Indian cuisine, particularly tandoor dishes
  • Understanding of Indian spices and ingredients
  • Basic knife skills and food preparation techniques
  • Familiarity with food safety and hygiene standards
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • Previous kitchen experience preferred, but not required for entry-level candidates
