Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and efficient Commis I - Tandoor Cuisine to join our culinary team at Grand Mercure Mysore, India. As a key member of our kitchen staff, you will assist in the preparation and cooking of authentic tandoor dishes, contributing to our restaurant's commitment to delivering exceptional Indian cuisine.

  • Assist the tandoor chef in preparing and cooking various tandoor specialties, including naan, kebabs, and other traditional Indian dishes
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the tandoor station and surrounding work areas
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and rotation of ingredients to minimize waste and maintain quality
  • Follow recipes and cooking techniques as directed by senior kitchen staff
  • Collaborate with other kitchen team members to ensure timely and efficient food preparation
  • Adhere to all food safety and hygiene standards in accordance with local regulations
  • Assist in inventory management and restocking of tandoor-related ingredients and supplies
  • Participate in kitchen cleaning and maintenance tasks as assigned
  • Support other kitchen stations as needed during peak hours or special events

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Culinary school training preferred but not required
  • Food safety certification (e.g., ServSafe) preferred
  • Proficiency in tandoor cooking techniques and equipment usage
  • Knowledge of Indian spices, ingredients, and cooking methods, particularly related to tandoor cuisine
  • Basic knife skills and ability to follow recipes accurately
  • Understanding of food safety and hygiene standards
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Previous kitchen experience preferred, but not required for entry-level candidates demonstrating passion and aptitude for tandoor cooking
